Maddox hadn’t even finished speaking when Victor cut him off. “Jonathan is my son.”
Even though Maddox had already overheard part of the conversation carlier, hearing it again made it feel no less absurd.
Is this guy out of his mind?
As if reading his thoughts, Victor’s expression darkened. “You don’t believe me?”
“It’s not that…” Maddox chose his words carefully. “Jonathan’s a native.”
He hoped Victor would snap out of it, but the man wasn’t listening to a single word.
“He’s just like me. The same intelligence, the same decisiveness.”
So basically, Maddox had just wasted his breath.
Meanwhile, Sierra had already heard from Jonathan why Victor had shown up–and her reaction was the same as Maddox’s.
Victor was completely insane.
“How could he even think that?”
She found it a little funny. Jonathan didn’t have a drop of Western blood in him. Besides, as the eldest grandson of the Wynn family, the old man had confirmed his identity long ago.
“Who knows.”
Jonathan couldn’t care less what Victor was thinking. His plans were progressing smoothly, and with White’s defection earlier, Victor’s family was no longer the impenetrable fortress it once was.
Victor was far too arrogant. He always thought he held all the cards, that no one could touch him.
But what he didn’t know was–there were plenty of people out there just waiting for the chance to tear his family apart.
No one wanted to miss such a golden opportunity.
“Have you picked a name yet?”
Today, they were trying to come up with a nickname for the baby.
Two titans of the biochemistry world, completely stumped by the task of naming a child.
Jonathan even felt that naming a baby was harder than conducting any of his research.
And this was just the nickname. When it came time to choose a formal name, who knew how much worse it’d be.
While the two of them wrestled with that, Victor had managed to track down Chase and Susie through his

When the couple arrived hand in hand, Victor’s eyes were bloodshot.
“Chase. Nancy. You’ve lied to me for over thirty years.”
Susie felt deeply unsettled. This was exactly how Victor had looked the last time he’d confronted her all those years ago. She instinctively tightened her grip on Chase’s arm.
That small action only enraged Victor further. He charged forward, but Chase stepped in his way.
“Victor, what do you think you’re doing? You really believe this place belongs to you? Have you forgotten what you said when you left all those years ago?”
Victor froze. His recent spiral had partly been fueled by his family slipping out of control, and partly by the old wounds being ripped open again.
He had always believed everything was under his control. Only now did he realize–he was the one being played.
Someone like Victor couldn’t handle that kind of reality check.
Taking a deep breath, he finally spoke.
“Nancy, you’ve got guts. Looks like you’ve forgotten what happened back then.”
The moment he brought up the past, Susie’s expression changed dramatically. But she still said, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“You’ve got some nerve. Lying to me for so many years… Fine. But to lie about my child dying? That’s unforgivable.”
Chase and Susie both felt their hearts skip a beat. Before they could respond, Victor added:
“I already know Jonathan is my son. I’ve told him. I told him I’m his father. He never liked you two to begin with. Now that he knows the truth, whose side do you think he’ll be on?”
Chase and Susie were stunned. What the hell was Victor thinking?
How could he possibly believe Jonathan was his son?
“You’ve really lost it,” Chase said flatly. “In what way does Jonathan resemble you?”
“In every way! His courage, his strategy, even his ruthlessness–he’s exactly like me. We’re cut from the same mold. You think someone like you could raise a son like him?”
Victor’s eyes burned with contempt as he looked at Chase.
Chase just laughed. “Go get treatment if you’re sick. I came here today to tell you–I’ve never been afraid of you. And this isn’t the past. You’re nothing more than a trapped beast now.”
Victor snorted. “You think I can’t deal with you? Seems like you’ve all forgotten what I’m capable of. Just wait. My gift is coming.”

With that, Victor grabbed his cane and turned to leave. But before he walked off, he glanced back at Susie.
“You lied to me, but since you gave me a son, I’ll let it go. I’m looking forward to the day our family is reunited.”
