The cleaning lady silently swept up the glass shards and left.
Vivian grabbed her phone and dialed a number.
“What the hell is going on? How does she suddenly have a kid?”
A voice came through the phone: “Still unclear. We need to investigate. It feels off–if she really had a child years ago, Nathan would know about it. Maybe you should test the waters with him?”
“You mean…” Vivian’s eyes narrowed dangerously. “This is fake?”
“Possibly,” the voice replied. “Either way, ask Nathan first. Whether it’s real or fake, we’ll figure out how to handle it.”
After a pause, the voice added, “Vivian, I’ve got your back.”
Vivian finally relaxed and hung up.
She paced her shop, running through possibilities.
Option one: The kid was real. Impossible. Nathan cared deeply about children and they’d been married for a year–there’d be no reason to hide a child.
Option two: The kid was fake.
But why would Amelia pull something like this?
Then it hit her, and Vivian started laughing.

“Amelia, I didn’t think you were this stupid!” She grabbed her phone and call Nathan.

Eddie stood in front of Nathan’s desk, handing him a tablet.
*Mr. Harrison, here’s the latest update. I contacted the reporters like you ask and got the full story.”
Nathan scrolled through the content–internet gossip plus the intel Eddie had gathered.
“You can see the basic info about the child, sir. It’s a girl, looks under five years old. They caught Mrs. Harrison at a preschool.”
Eddie continued, “As requested, I’ve bought all the information. Nothing more detailed will surface online.”
In this age of paparazzi, information was a commodity to be sold.
This was clearly one of those cases.
The tablet showed Amelia in a coat, crouching to adjust a little girl’s clothes. The child’s voice was barely audible: “Mommy.”
This was the source material, so it wasn’t censored.
Nathan frowned. What was she trying to pull?
Where did she get a kid?
Just as Nathan was about to call Amelia, his phone buzzed.
Vivian.
After a moment’s thought, Nathan answered.
“Nathan.” Vivian’s voice came through tentatively. “Um… did you see what’s trending online today?”
Her tone was careful, almost fragile–heartbreaking to hear.
“You mean about Amelia?” Nathan cut straight to the point.
“Yeah.” She paused, then asked hesitantly, “Nathan, is that… is that your child with her?”
Nathan considered this. Over the past seven years, Amelia had been constantly by his side–they’d never been apart long enough for her to have and hide a pregnancy.
He shook his head. “I don’t think so.”
“Nathan, you don’t have to protect my feelings,” Vivian’s voice wavered, now thick with unshed tears. “You two have been together for so long. Having a child would be completely normal. I… I’m okay with it, and besides…”
She trailed off, leaving them both in silence.
After about thirty seconds, Vivian finally said, “Never mind.”
Nathan gazed out the floor–to–ceiling windows at the clouds drifting across the sky. “I’ll figure this out.”
But Vivian didn’t respond the way she usually did.
“Nathan, I don’t want to hurt her,” Vivian said. “I’m dying anyway. I don’t need much. I just… I just want you to love me.”
“But if this makes her unhappy, Nathan, go back to her.”

Her voice cracked with emotion.
But back in her flower shop, Vivian was smiling.

Amelia stared at her phone screen.

Looking at the little girl’s artwork beside her, a small smile crossed her face.

In the hospital, Serena Rogers‘ face was full of compassion.
