Chapter 7
Henry smiled as he looked at Lexi. “You’ve been gone long enough. It’s time to come home.”
When he saw she was only carrying a backpack, he asked with a gloomy expression, “You were in Tenby for three years, and this is all you brought?”
Then he added, “Forget it. What could Jeremy have possibly given you that’s worth keeping? When we get back, I’ll just buy out an entire mall so that you can take whatever you want.”
Lexi gave a faint smile.
For the past three years, the Frey Group had been on the rise, and she’d been careful not to spend on anything expensive. Back when she was living with the Shaws, the gifts she received annually from all her relatives could’ve easily bought out half of the Frey Group’s shares.
“There’s no need to waste money. I don’t really care about material stuff anymore.”
Henry noticed how much she’d changed. She was no longer the bold, carefree woman he remembered.
His heart ached.
“Let’s go,” Lexi said as she got into the car.
Her clothes clung to her frame, and as she moved, it was easy to see the bone sticking out of her back.
Henry froze in alarm. He immediately grabbed her and frowned. “What happened to your back? Did Jeremy hurt you? I swear, I’ll drag him out right now!”
Henry had always treated her like a princess and had never even raised his voice at her, let alone let her
get hurt.
Even three years ago, when she did everything she could to push him away, he still couldn’t bring himself to say a bad word about her.
His eyes turned dark and dangerous, and he looked like he could kill Jeremy on the spot.
Just then, she stopped him. “He’s not home!”
He stared at her, clearly frustrated. “Are you still defending him?”
“I’m not,” she said. “He’s really not home. And besides, I want to take care of this myself.
“Henry, I chose you. That means there’s no one else in my heart. Don’t you trust me at least that much?”
Seeing her sincere gaze, he forced himself to push down his anger. “Fine. I believe everything you say.”
Worried she might hurt herself bending over, he just scooped her up and gently helped her into the car.
That evening, Jeremy got home and frowned slightly when he didn’t see Lexi waiting for him. Usually,

she’d come to the door, take his coat, and hang it up.
He thought about how many messages he’d sent her that went unanswered, and his frown deepened.
“Lexi? Lexi. Lexi Shaw!”

He searched the whole villa but couldn’t find her. Thinking she was pulling one of her usual “leaving home “stunts, he held back his irritation and called her.
A cold, robotic voice answered instead, “The number you have dialed is currently unavailable.”
He immediately sent her a message.
“Lexi, don’t be like this. I know you’ve felt aggrieved lately, but Tricia is just a guest. You’re the lady of this
house, so you should act with grace.
“In two months, the renovation on Tricia’s new place will be finished, and she’ll move out. After that, it’ll
be just us. There’s really nothing for you to worry about.”
He hit send and was met with a red exclamation mark.
Had he been blocked?
Just then, one of the maids came out of her room. “Mr. Frey, Mrs. Frey left this afternoon. She asked me to tell you the anniversary gift she prepared is in the safe.”
The words instantly calmed Jeremy’s rising anger.
He knew it. Lexi could never really leave him. This was just another one of her little tantrums.
He grunted softly and headed upstairs.
Every year, she insisted on celebrating their anniversary and always surprised him with some thoughtful gesture. Even if he pretended not to care, he appreciated it deep down.
He hadn’t opened the safe yet, but he could already guess that it was something she’d made by hand, just
like she always did.
He even smiled a little at the thought. He walked up to the safe, entered the code, and opened it.
The moment he looked inside, his face fell.
There were no handmade gifts. There was just a sheet of white paper.
Frowning, he pulled everything out. The second he saw the resignation letter, the air around him turned
cold.
