Chapter 24

As soon as Tricia finished talking, she flicked her wrist, and the tip of her blade nearly pierced Lexi’s neck.

Just in the nick of time, a gunshot rang out, and Tricia was shot straight in the head. Her eyes froze wide open as her body dropped instantly.

Lexi’s face was covered in blood. Her body was trembling, and she was too shocked to make a sound.

Henry rushed to her side and pulled her into his arms. “Lexi, it’s over now. You’re safe.”

He had actually stationed snipers around the venue earlier, worried that something might go wrong at the wedding. But getting them into place took time, which was why he had been stalling.

Thankfully, Tricia was taken out at the critical moment. What was supposed to be a grand wedding was completely ruined by her appearance.

Lexi was so traumatized she passed out and didn’t wake up for a whole week in the hospital.

When she finally woke up, she had amnesia.

Technically, it was selective amnesia. She remembered everyone, except Jeremy and Tricia.

The doctors said it was likely a trauma response, her mind choosing to block out certain people.

Luke and Anne thought it was a blessing. They ordered everyone around her not to mention those two names again.

Back at Frey Group in Tenby, under pressure from Shaw Group, Frey Group had declared bankruptcy. Tons of companies backed out of their contracts, and on top of the massive penalties, Jeremy was now facing potential criminal charges. Everything in the office had been seized and sold off to cover debts.

Jeremy sat by the floor-to-ceiling windows, staring in the direction of Juville with a vacant smile.

His assistant walked in just as a single tear slid from the corner of his eye.

“Mr. Frey, here’s my resignation letter,” he said, placing the envelope at Jeremy’s feet.

Everyone else had already left, and only the assistant had stayed until the very end.

Jeremy smiled faintly. “Go. Everyone’s gone anyway.”

The assistant sighed and said, “Mr. Frey, thank you for all your mentorship over the years. I wouldn’t be who I am today without you. I’ve witnessed everything that happened between you and Ms. Shaw. Before I leave, I just want to say one last thing.

“She loved you deeply once. And now, it seems like she’s determined to forget about you. The truth is, you both loved each other, but never at the same time.

“Mr. Frey, what’s done is done. We all have to move forward. I hope you’ll find your footing again soon.”

With that, the assistant turned and left, leaving Jeremy alone in the office.

He sat there for a long time, thinking everything over.

The assistant was right. They had both loved each other but never at the right time. They were never in

sync.

Suddenly, he realized everyone around him had seen right through him.

Tricia knew he was too cowardly to die for Lexi. Lexi knew he was a cheater who couldn’t commit, always chasing something else. Even the company’s shareholders had known he didn’t have the skills and that most of his success came from Lexi’s efforts.

For the first time, he understood why he’d lost it all. Someone like him never deserved Lexi’s love. Slowly,

he stood up and looked out the window, smiling faintly in the direction of Juville.

In Juville, Lexi had been discharged, though she still got headaches whenever it rained. She used to love the ocean, but now, just the sight of water terrified her.

Henry didn’t dare take her to the beach anymore.

Their last wedding had been a disaster, so they planned a new one.

This time, it was held in a hotel. As the guests showered them with blessings, Lexi walked slowly toward

Henry.

The famously proud heir of the Garner family got down on one knee in front of everyone, asking sincerely,

“Lexi, will you marry me?”

For a second, Lexi felt like she’d seen this before. Her head throbbed a little again. Just as she was about

to answer, the doors burst open.

A few police officers walked in, heading straight toward her.

“Ms. Shaw, we just received an urgent notice. Jeremy Frey from Tenby attempted suicide by jumping off a building. He was just resuscitated, but he doesn’t have much time left. He’s asked to see you before he

goes.”

Everyone’s faces fell.

Lexi’s brow furrowed as fragments of memories started flooding her mind. She clutched her head, pounding on it as if she could beat the bad memories away.

Henry looked at her with concern, grabbing her wrists. “Don’t force it. If you can’t remember, just let it go.

“Officers, whatever’s going on with Mr. Frey has nothing to do with my wife. It’s our wedding today. If you’re here to celebrate, you’re welcome. But if this is about something else, I’m afraid we’ll have to ask

you to leave.

“Someone, please come and show the officers out.”

Just as they were about to be escorted out. Lexi suddenly remembered everything. Her mind echoed with Jeremy’s voice from the past. “Lexi, let’s build a life together.”

“Wait!” she called out.

All eyes were on her, especially Henry, whose palms had started to sweat

She said to the officers, “Please let him know it’s over between us, and there’s no need for us to meet again.”

The officers looked at one another and nodded. “Understood.”

Lexi turned back to Henry with a bright smile. “Henry, I do. I don’t ever want us to part in this lifetime.”

She held him tightly and gazed into the distance, whispering silently in her heart, Jeremy, this is goodbye for good. Let’s not meet again even in the next life.”
