Sophia sat on the living room couch while the family doctor, Caleb Forbes, carefully tended to the bruises on her body. When the alcohol swab touched her wounds, she hissed in pain. However, her mind was consumed by Victoria’s cold stare in the warehouse earlier.
Something was wrong. Very wrong.
She had the same face, but that look and ruthless edge were nothing like the submissive “Victoria” from before.
“Ugh!”
She suddenly gripped the couch armrest tightly, and Caleb quickly apologized. “Ms. Page, just bear with it a little longer. I’m almost finished.” Sophia waved him off impatiently, gesturing for him to hurry up. After Caleb left, she stood up, deciding to get some water to calm her nerves.
Just as she reached the hallway, she heard two maids whispering in the corner, clutching an envelope.
“She said to give this to her after the wedding, but the wedding wasn’t completed. What should we do?”
“Shh, keep your voice down! If Mr. Reid finds out we didn’t handle what Mrs. Reid asked us to do…”
Sophia narrowed her
eyes and quietly approached them.
What are you talking about?”
The two maids jumped, one nearly dropping the envelope. Seeing it was Sophia, their faces went even paler, “What is that?” Sophia held out her hand. “Let me see.”
“Ms… Ms. Page…
Lily hesitated before handing it over. “Mrs. Reid gave this to us earlier, saying to give it back to her after the wedding. But now that the wedding isn’t completed, we don’t know what to do…”
Sophia’s pulse quickened, but she smiled gently. see. Leave it with me then. I was just about to go find her anyway.
Once the maids left, she immediately returned to her room. She locked the door and eagerly tore open the envelope. Inside were several handwritten notes, the handwriting neat and clear.
“Jason is allergic to milk, so never let him have any. He also hates sweets. He only drinks black coffee, with no sugar. “There’s stomach medicine in the second drawer on the left in his study. He forgets to take it when working late…”
Sophia’s fingers trembled slightly. Victoria already knew Jason so well, so why would she write these things down and ask the maids to deliver them to ” herself“?
Unless…
Her heart suddenly raced. Unless the woman inside this mansion wasn’t Victoria at all!
She shot to her feet and grabbed her phone, dialing quickly. “I need you to investigate Victoria Coleman. Everything you can find, especially all her movements in the past three months!”
After hanging up, she stuffed the notes into the bottom of her jewelry box and took a deep breath to calm herself.
The moment Sophia left the kitchen, she came face–to–face with Victoria walking up the stairs.
Their eyes met, and the air instantly froze. Sophia forced down her racing pulse and managed a smile. “Ms. Coleman, Jason’s in his study. Would you like to bring him a mug of hot milk?” She stared intently at Victoria’s face, watching for any change in expression.
Victoria slowly raised an eyebrow, her gaze moving from Sophia’s swollen face to the milk in her hand. Suddenly, she sneered and took the mug.
She then splashed the entire mug of hot milk across Sophia’s face.
“Ah!” Sophia screamed and stumbled backward, milk dripping down her hair. She looked completely disheveled. “Are you insane?”
Victoria threw the empty mug to the floor, shards scattering everywhere. She curled her lips in contempt.
“The maids can handle that kind of thing. Who do you think you are, trying to order me around?”
Sophia trembled with rage. “You… You actually…”
“What’s going on?” Jason emerged from his study, frowning at the scene.
Victoria crossed her arms defiantly “I threw it at her. So what?”
She glanced at Sophia. “At least I own up to what I do, unlike some people who resort to underhanded tactics.”
With that, she turned and walked away. Her heels ruthlessly crushed the ceramic shards beneath her feet with sharp, grating sounds.
Sophia looked tearfully at Jason. “Jason, why is she treating me like this?”
Jason was silent for a moment, his gaze following Victoria’s retreating figure. Then, he said something unprecedented.
The wedding didn’t happen. It’s normal for her to be upset.”
He looked away, “It’s not a big deal. Just go clean yourself up
