Chapter 534 Web of Lies
Jonathan didn’t respond. He quietly finished the meal Stone brought him before finally asking, “How Sierra?”
“I saw her a few days ago. She’s staying calm,” Stone replied. Then, looking at him, he added, “I’m stuck in here with you now. You better remember to make it worth my while.”
Jonathan gave him a kick. The two exchanged a smile but said nothing more.
Back outside, Mateo and Draven had stopped by to see Sierra. When they heard that Stone was now taking care of Jonathan, they felt much more at case.
Still, this couldn’t drag on. They had to pick up the pace. The root of it all was Victor.
“Sierra, is there anything we can do?” Mateo asked.
“Just telling me this is already more than enough.”
Jonathan hadn’t involved Mateo and the others in this ordeal, and Sierra understood exactly what that meant. He didn’t want them dragged into it in case things went south.
So, she wouldn’t pull them in either.
Mateo and Draven had figured that much out. The current situation made everything clear.
If this were just a power struggle with Victor, things wouldn’t be this extreme. This time, they wanted Jonathan dead.
Mateo’s face turned grim. “I get why he’s keeping us out, but Sierra, if anything happens to him, we’re not going to get off easy either.”
“Exactly. So tell us–what can we do?”
The past few days had nearly driven him mad. He’d used every connection he had and still couldn’t find a single lead. That’s when he knew things had gotten serious.
Sierra couldn’t refuse their help any longer. After a pause, she said, “If you can, keep an eye on a few departments for me. I’m worried they’ll make another move soon.”
“Got it!”
Both men agreed immediately.
Once they left, Sierra forced herself to eat something, then lay down to try and rest.
Her sleep had been awful lately–light and restless. She’d wake every hour or two. I
petite was gone
too. The kitchen and Susie had been trying every trick in the book to get her to eat, but nothing worked.
While she was sleeping, Susie tiptoed into the room. When she saw how much food was still left in the bowl, she sighed softly.
What were they going to do if this went on?

A flash of hatred crossed Susie’s eyes as she quietly shut the door behind her.
In the living room, Victor was drinking heavily. His mood had been excellent these past few days.
Ever since Jonathan had been detained, even his idiot sons had finally started behaving.
Of course, he never truly believed Jonathan was his son. He wasn’t that stupid. The kid didn’t have a trace of his blood in him–how could he be his?
He’d figured it all out the moment he realized Susie was actually Nancy from all those years ago.
Nancy had been with Chase the whole time. Neither of them had ever said a word. And yet, he’d spent all those years thinking he was her one and only. He’d even been overjoyed when she got pregnant, counting down the days until the baby was born.
Turns out, he was just the fool being played.
All those years of longing and affection? A joke.
After the fury passed, his mind cleared, and he came up with the perfect solution: make everyone think he’d gone mad. Let them believe Jonathan really was his son.
With that illusion in place, not only would his own moronic sons cut ties with Jonathan, but the people here would also be tempted to make a move on him.
No matter which faction, no one wanted him and Jonathan to form an alliance. Either one of them alone was already powerful. But together?
They’d never let it happen.
That’s how things had ended up like this.
Jonathan wasn’t going to survive this.
The thought made Victor smile.
Just then, a guard came in and said Susie wanted to see him.
“She came alone?” Victor asked.
“Yes.”
He paused, then nodded. “Let her in.”
When Susie walked in, Victor swirled his wine glass and said, “I thought you didn’t have the guts to face
me.”
Susie swallowed hard. If she had a choice, she wouldn’t be here at all. This man was her worst nightmare.

But for Jonathan’s sake, she had no choice.
“What will it take for you to let my son go?”
She gritted her teeth as she asked.
“Our son,” Victor corrected her. “Relax. I’d never hurt our son, would I?”
