Chapter 9
Chapter 9

“You two little idiots! Yasmine barely took care of you, and yet you think you can be rude to me? How dare you look down on me? I should have killed both of you the moment you were born! She’s just a useless, infertile bitch. Apart from being born with a silver spoon, she can’t compare to me!” Zara shouted.
Zachary and Rachel curled up in the corner of the bed. They were too terrified to even let out an exhale.
“It’s just my luck that I gave birth to rubbish like the two of you. If you ever bring up Yasmine in front of me again, you won’t like what I’ll do to you!”
After that, she scoffed coldly and slammed the door.
Charlie had some urgent business to attend to for a few days, so he left the kids under Zara’s care.
During meals, she couldn’t help but see traces of Yasmine on the twins as they ate elegantly.
Zara was incredibly jealous, and she decided to take out her anger on the kids.
If she wasn’t at the spa, then she was at a yoga class. She left the kids to fend for themselves and only let
them drink water to fill their stomachs.
Every time her anger reached its peak, she would pinch and hit the kids on their torsos and legs, where it
would be hidden by clothes. No one noticed anything.
One day, she was about to head to her regular beautifying session when she heard the maids murmuring quietly amongst themselves.
“Is Ms. Lane Mr. Listford’s sugar baby? She doesn’t act like she came from a proper background at all.”
Zara gritted her teeth from anger and took it out on the kids by forcing them to stand next to an open
window.
Zachary soon fell sick with a high fever after standing under a chilly wind all night.
“Ms. Zara, Rachel begged as she cried. “Zach is sick. Please save him.”
‘Idiot!” Zara said as she frowned and slapped Rachel across the face a few times. “All Yasmine taught you is to cry and cry! It’s not like he’s dead!”
She smashed a glass on the ground and threatened Rachel, “If you tell your dad a single word about this,
I’ll beat you to death!”
Suddenly, Rachel scurried off while crying out, “Dad!”
Zara’s eyes widened in fear.
Charlie picked up Rachel, whose face was streaked with tears. He patted her on the back lightly as he said in a soft voice, “Tell me what happened.”

Rachel looked up cautiously at Zara, not daring to say another word.
“Charlie, they didn’t listen to me. They kept playing outside,” Zara said, running up to Charlie with tears in
her eyes.
In a pitiful voice, she said, “When I tried to give Zachary his medicine, he threw his glass of water on the
floor.”
She pointed at the floor, which was covered in water and shards of glass.
Charlie knew how disobedient his kids could be and sighed helplessly.
He suddenly felt a little bit guilty at the sight of the scratches on the back of Zara’s hand.
“I’m sorry. The kids must have been naughty.”
He passed Rachel back to Zara and took out his phone to contact his doctor. He then went downstairs to get some fever medicine. “Zara, help me watch the kids for a moment.”
Zara gently dried Rachel’s tears as she said, “Go ahead. I’ll wait for you to come back.”
Charlie hurried downstairs. He felt his heart start to hurt at the sight of all the different medicines.
He missed Yasmine.
When she was around, he never needed to worry about these things.
He walked back to the room to ask Zara about the medicine, but before he opened the door, he heard her scolding Rachel fiercely.
“You were about to tattle, right? Do you want me to cut your tongue off?”
Rachel shivered as she sobbed. “I’m sorry, Ms. Zara. I won’t do it again.”
“That’s right,” Zara said with a scoff. She firmly pulled Rachel’s braid and said, “If you don’t watch out, I’ll
do exactly what I did to Yasmine. No one will know how you died!”
Her words struck Charlie like a bolt of lightning and shocked him like a clap of thunder.
He kicked the door open, causing it to slam against the wall loudly.
Zara jumped from the noise and turned around in shock.
