Mary had dealt with the Ashfordsantics before, but this was a whole new level of ridiculous

Conner bellowed into the house, Noelle! Noelle Spencer! Get out here! I need to talk to you!He stormed into the Spencer residence like a madman

Mary, unable to stop him, had no choice but to hurry after him. Caleb, I’m calling the cops if you don’t knock it off. And when I do, don’t blame me for embarrassing both our families.”

But Conner strode through the house as if he owned it and headed straight for Noelle’s room

Mary was baffled by how well he knew his way around the Spencer residence

Conner and Caleb were identical twins. She’d usually tell them apart by their quirks and mannerisms, but

she wasn’t sure which one she was looking at just then

Conner’s shouting had jolted Noelle awake. She threw on some clothes and opened the door before he

could barge in

Mary awkwardly stood behind him, but Noelle met her gaze with a nonchalant smile. Mom, go get some rest. If Caleb came all this way at this hour, he must have something important to tell me.”

Water dripped from Conner’s clothes and onto the floor, leaving a trail of wet footprints with every step he

took toward Noelle

As soon as Mary left, he seemed to lose all restraint. He stepped forward and wrapped his arms around Noelle’s waist, his hot, damp breath brushing against her face. Noelle, Mrs. Spencer said you’re remarrying. She lied, right? She had to be lying. How could you suddenly decide to remarry?”

Noelle’s brows drew together, his closeness making her uneasy. She stepped back to put space between

them

My mom didn’t lie. I’m getting remarried at the end of this month. As she spoke, her eyes were cool and distant, like a July night without stars

Conner felt a crushing grip on his heart, and the pain was overwhelming. No, no,he muttered, shaking his head. I must have heard wrongly. We were so good together. How could you turn around and marry

someone else?”

Noelle mockingly arched a brow and smirked. Caleb, did the rain scramble your brain? Keep talking nonsense like that, and you’ll put Sabrina’s pregnancy at risk again.”

She had nothing but contempt for Conner. If he wanted to act, he should’ve at least committed instead of giving himself away with such an obvious tell

She sneered

What a joke. How dare Conner even claim they had been so good together? If that were true, he wouldn’t

have faked his own death, pretended to be Caleb, and knocked Sabrina up

When Conner saw the familiar warmth in Noelle’s eyes vanish and get replaced by a distant stare, something in him snapped

2/2

No, no! I’m not your brotherinlaw, and Sabrina isn’t your sisterinlaw either. You can’t marry someone

else. You’re mine! You’re mine!”

He lunged at Noelle, but she slipped out of reach and stepped back
