Chapter 40
In the Cole residence during dinner, Sebastian sat with a cup of tea by his side while the housekeepers carried in a spread of dishes.
Denise set her phone down with an unimpressed look. “People these days have nothing better to do. Seriously, don’t these people have jobs? All they do is stick their noses in other people’s business.”
William lowered his newspaper, his glasses sliding down to the bridge of his nose as he glanced at her.” What now? Another scandal? Is it about our family?” He figured it must be. Otherwise, Denise wouldn’t’ve
looked so upset.
Denise was barely able to contain her anger and even slapped the table.
It caused Sebastian to look up and frown. “Is it those rumors again about me having some weird illness? I don’t care, Mom. Just scroll past it next time. There’s no need to let it get to you.”
Getting worked up over those people–even for a second–was a mistake.
Denise steadied herself and said, “Those little punks have gotten smarter now. They know the Cole family
won’t let them off easily, so they barely dare to write about us anymore.
“But the Spencer family…”
Sebastian’s previously calm expression immediately turned serious, and even his posture grew more
tense. He asked, “What are they saying?”
Denise’s eyes flashed with frustration. “They’re saying Yasmine made a scene at the Spencer house today. She accused Noelle of being unable to bear children and trying to harm the Ashford family’s
bloodline.
“I’m furious!”
William took off his glasses, equally angry. “Yasmine is nothing but a madwoman! Why can’t she part
ways peacefully? Why must she air their private matters and feed into gossip?”
Suddenly, Sebastian pushed his chair back and stood up.
“Hey, where are you going? Are you not staying for dinner?” William asked.
Sebastian planned to visit the Spencer residence, but before he could explain what he was doing, he turned around to see the housekeeper leading Noelle in.
Noelle kept her head down like a child who had done something wrong, wearing a polite smile as she greeted each of the Cole family members.
Sebastian didn’t know whether to stand or sit, so he simply stared at Noelle for a while.

Meanwhile, Noelle started feeling uneasy. She was wondering if the news had already reached the Coles.
Then again, it definitely had reached them. After all, they were different from others–they were soon to be tied to the Spencers, so naturally, they’d pay closer attention to any related news.
Noelle bit her lip lightly and said, “Mr. and Mrs. Cole, Mr. Sebastian, good evening. I came here tonight because I need to tell you all something.”
Upon seeing how anxious Noelle seemed, Sebastian’s heart ached.
He stepped forward, took Noelle’s hand, and led her to the dining table. Then, he pulled out the chair next to his seat. “You haven’t eaten yet, have you? Nothing is more important than eating. Have something
first, then we can talk.”
Noelle looked at the table full of elaborate dishes.
The Spencer family had held their welcome party, but she had been so overwhelmed by everything that
she hadn’t eaten a single bite yet that day.
But although she was somewhat hungry, she knew better than to lose focus now.
She shook her head. “I’ll pass on dinner. I think I should… say what I came here for first.”
