She took a deep breath and added, “Instead of waiting for the news to reach them, I think I should go to the Cole residence tonight and explain everything clearly. It’s better to tell them sooner so they can
minimize their losses.”
After all, she’d heard that the Cole family was already preparing an elaborate wedding.
Mary struggled to prop herself up with her arms. “Noelle, I’ll go with you,” she said, her face etched with
worry.
She was afraid Noelle would have to face this alone and that the Cole family’s fury would be mercilessly directed at her. After all, she was only in her mid–20s–she was too young to handle that kind of pressure.
But Noelle was stronger than Mary imagined.
She adjusted the pillow behind Mary, tucked the blanket snugly around her, and softly said, “Mom, you
should rest. I’ll handle this myself. Don’t think too much, and just wait for me at home.”

Sebastian saw the determination in Noelle’s eyes.
She really was a stubborn woman.
So, he stopped insisting and settled for a compromise, saying, “Then at least sit down to talk, okay?”
Since everyone else was seated, Noelle felt awkward standing. So, she nodded and sat down as well. Sebastian even thoughtfully pushed her chair in for her.
After Noelle sat down, she noticed that William, Denise, and Sebastian were all looking at her.
It was an indescribable feeling. In the past, when she spoke with the Ashford family, it seemed like everyone was busy with their own affairs.
Sebastian noticed that Noelle hadn’t spoken even after sitting down and thought it might be because she
was nervous.
He was just about to comfort her when she suddenly spoke up and said, “I’m sorry, Mr. and Mrs. Cole. I should have told you about this much earlier.”
Sebastian’s chest tightened. He assumed she had come to call off the engagement and couldn’t help wondering if she still had feelings for Conner.
If it had been anyone else, Sebastian would have felt confident. Yet, Noelle was Noelle. If she had cared about the Cole family’s status, she wouldn’t have been with Conner in the first place.
The thought of this made him frown subconsciously.
Noelle noticed Sebastian’s expression.
She assumed that after Yasmine’s scene, he must have found out about her situation. So right now, he probably hated her.
He was probably blaming her for not saying anything sooner, for accepting the jewelry he gave her at the mall that day, and for making the Cole family waste their time over these past few days.
Noelle lowered her head a bit more and forced a polite smile. “That’s right, I can’t have children. It’s all my fault… I shouldn’t have waited until things got this messy to be honest with you.”
When she’d first heard
that the Cole family wanted her to marry into their family, Noelle had only thought about getting away from the Ashford family as quickly as possible and cutting ties with the past.
However, she had never considered the Cole family’s Interests.
For a moment, Sebastian was stunned.

Finally, he said, “This is what you wanted to tell us?” The gloom on his face faded and was replaced by a faint, almost unnoticeable smile.
Noelle didn’t dare lift her head, so she didn’t see the expressions on the Cole family’s faces.
She had prepared herself to face their anger, yet it never came. Instead, everyone started going about
their own business.
Denise even raised her hand to call the housekeeper. “Lydia, could you please get another set of plates and cutlery for Noelle?”
William even warmly asked, “Noelle, do you like the dishes on the table? If there’s anything special you’d
like to eat, we can have the kitchen prepare it.”
Sebastian smiled as he looked at Noelle who still had her head down. He patted her shoulder and asked, ” Why are you getting so worked up over such a small thing?”
Only then did Noelle slowly raise her head.
The Coles‘ expressions and reactions were nothing like what she had imagined them to be. Weren’t they supposed to be upset she had kept this from them until now, when the wedding was nearly here and everyone had been working so hard for it?
Why did it feel like the Cole family didn’t care much about it at all?
