Chapter 44
Noelle was in no state to answer the phone, so Sebastian took the call for her.
“Mrs. Spencer, hello. Yes, Noelle is here with me.”
Mary’s voice was full of worry. “Sebastian, Noelle is afraid of thunderstorms. With all this thunder and rain, the roads aren’t safe either. Should I come pick her up?”
Sebastian considered her offer for a few seconds before responding, “Mrs. Spencer, let Noelle stay overnight at the Cole residence. In this terrible weather, it wouldn’t be safe for you to go out either.
“I’ll personally drive her home tomorrow when the weather clears.”
Perhaps worried that Mary might be concerned about something, he thoughtfully added, “Please don’t worry. The Cole residence has many guest rooms. I’ll have the housekeeper prepare one.”
Mary finally eased a little. “I’m sorry to trouble you like this.”
Sebastian’s tone was warm and polite as he replied, “Please, there’s no trouble at all. We’ll be family soon,
so there’s no need to be so formal.”
Mary froze at those words.
Did this mean Noelle hadn’t told him yet? Otherwise, how could Sebastian say they’d all be family in the
future?
With this thought in mind, Mary didn’t hang up the phone. Instead, she slowly said, “Sebastian, Noelle really wasn’t trying to hide anything on purpose. She doesn’t have such a calculating nature…”
She thought that perhaps if she said a few words in Noelle’s defense now, the Coles wouldn’t make things
too difficult for her later on. Her tone had even softened with a touch of flattery.
“The Spencers and Coles haven’t kept much contact in recent years, but we were once really close. And your family’s always been generous, so I’m sure-”
But before Mary could finish, Sebastian laughed and said, “Mrs. Spencer, I don’t quite understand what
you’re saying, but I’m guessing it has to do with someone causing trouble at the Spencer family party this
afternoon.”
He continued, “You’re overthinking this matter. I won’t blame Noelle for hiding anything, and I certainly won’t blame the Spencers either.
“I want to marry Noelle, and it has nothing to do with whether or not she can have children.”
Mary was stunned. She had always known the Cole family was refined and gracious, but this was beyond what she expected.
After hanging up, she couldn’t help but wonder if Sebastian was the one with the issue.

In the Cole family’s living room, the thunder showed no signs of stopping.
By then, Noelle had already lost her rationality. She was trembling uncontrollably and was on the edge of
fainting.
Sebastian had already asked Lydia to prepare the innermost guest room for Noelle, and now, the usually composed man was even starting to rush her. “Lydia, please hurry.”
Lydia’s tone was somewhat apologetic as she replied, “Mr. Cole, the guest room hasn’t been lived in for too long, and it won’t be ready so soon.
“Your room is also toward the back, where the thunder is quieter. Why don’t you take Ms. Spencer to your
room first? She’s so frightened.”
Sebastian lowered his head and leaned close to Noelle’s ear. He whispered, “Noelle, let’s go to my room
first.”
Noelle was so shaken that her throat was tight, and she couldn’t even make a sound.
Upon seeing the lightning and thunder outside, Sebastian didn’t think twice. He scooped Noelle into his
arms and headed to his room.
Noelle clung to him, her cheek resting against his shoulder. For a brief moment, she felt an unusual sense
of safety.
Sebastian’s room was at the very back of the second floor. He carried Noelle and kicked open the
bedroom door with his foot, first placing her on the bed, then pulling the curtains tightly shut.
The soundproofing in the innermost room was excellent, and the sharp thunder instantly became muffled. Even the sound of the rain outside became indistinct.
As Noelle breathed in the faint scent of sandalwood and pine lingering on Sebastian’s bed, she felt herself
calming down.
She felt a bit embarrassed that such a grown person like her would still be so afraid of thunderstorms.
So, she turned her face to the side, not daring to look directly at Sebastian.
She mumbled, I’m sorry… I not only troubled you but made a fool of myself too.”
Sebastian stood in the shifting light and said, “Noelle, I would never consider anything about you to be
trouble.”
