Chapter 59
William and Denise had to put their work on hold to prepare for the wedding
However, since Sebastian was managing the company, they weren’t worried. After all, it was now the younger generation’s era. The times had changed, and so had the world. The company might even do better under his leadership.
Sebastian had also proven that leaving the company to him was the right choice. However, William would still ask about the company from time to time. “Lydia said you had to leave this morning to sign a contract. What project is it for?”
Sebastian was zoning out on the couch in the living room. It was just last night that Noelle curled up in his embrace on the very same couch and rammed into him like a deer. The thought of it still made him
nervous.
When Sebastian wouldn’t answer his question, William frowned at him. “Did you encounter a problem?”
Denise, however, knew exactly what occupied her son’s mind. “A problem? It’s clear our son isn’t thinking.
about work at all.”
Sebastian finally returned to his senses and answered William’s question, “It’s the project in the city.
center.”
Although William rarely involved himself in the company’s decisions now, he was still aware of the big projects in every quarter. “Didn’t we decide to leave it to the Novara Corporation in a meeting long ago?”
The Novara Corporation was the Ashford family’s company.
Lydia offered a cup of coffee that she had made to Sebastian. “Mr. Sebastian, the weather’s cold after the rain, perfect for a cup of coffee.”
Sebastian accepted the cup of coffee. The steam rising from the cup softened his sharp gaze.
He said nonchalantly, “We did decide early on to leave it to Novara Corporation, but now I’ve found a better company. We signed a contract with them today.”
William was confused. More time was usually needed to determine if a company was suitable. Even if Sebastian managed to do so much faster, he didn’t have to sign the contract so soon.
However, Denise thought it was pretty transparent. William was a man from the older generation who always saw things as they were on the surface. He never cared to look deeper.
Denise, on the other hand, heard the housekeeper mention that they had a guest last night. It was a guest that Sebastian refused to invite in and instead only spoke to at the door.
Sebastian’s manners had always been impeccable, so who was the person he refused to even let step through the door? It wasn’t hard to deduce at all.

Since their cooperation with the Novara Corporation fell through today, someone from the Ashford family must have offended him last night.
Denise accepted the cup of coffee Lydia offered and smiled. Sebastian had always been subtle. His actions today finally made him seem less perfect and more human.
“Lydia, make more coffee for Sebastian. He seems rather cranky lately,” Denise said.
William was confused, but he still went along with Denise. “That’s right. It’s normal for someone who’s about to marry to be in a cranky mood, but being angry all the time isn’t good for your health.”
Denise rolled her eyes at William. After years of communicating on different wavelengths with her husband, she was starting to find his cluelessness endearing.
Lucas drove Noelle back to the Spencer residence. Worried, she searched the house for Mary. Relief flooded her chest when she saw that Mary was safe and sound.
She held Mary’s hand. “Oh, thank goodness. Mom, I was so scared that the Ashfords would hurt you. Did you sleep well last night?”
Mary smiled knowingly and squeezed Noelle’s hand. After finding out about everything that happened at the Ashford residence, she felt awful for her daughter. Why did her foolish daughter choose to suffer in silence all by herself?
