With that thought, Vivian looked down and pretended to keep crying.
“Nathan, I’m fine now. I don’t want to see a doctor.”
Nathan frowned. “Your health isn’t good. Getting checked out would help you feel better.”
The doctor nodded in agreement.
Vivian’s illness had been all over the news. The doctor had heard about it and naturally felt sympathetic.
But Vivian just forced a smile and said, “It’s okay, I’ll just take some painkillers.”
After a pause, she added with self–mockery, “Someone like me–what’s the difference between dying today or tomorrow?”
Vivian shot Nathan another look.
Nathan seemed oblivious to her gaze and just waved the doctor away.
Then he helped Vivian up and walked her to the bedroom.
“You’re not dirty. It’s just that my grandparents are hard to deal with, and I’m honestly not in the mood tonight,” Nathan said. “Your health is bad–just get some rest.”
Nathan called over the caregiver who’d stepped out when the doctor arrived.
“Keep an eye on her, okay?” Nathan said.
The caregiver didn’t dare respond without looking at Vivian first.
Vivian just stared at Nathan with puppy dog eyes.
He looked down and patted her head gently.
“I can’t let my grandparents know I was here. I’ll come see you again when I get a chance,” Nathan said,
Vivian didn’t dare fake being sick anymore–she was afraid he’d call the doctor back in.
So she just turned away, pretending to be hurt.

Nathan didn’t say anything else, just gave the caregiver more instructions before getting ready to leave.
But just then.
Vivian’s muffled voice came from behind him: “I don’t know what she did to you tonight, what she said to
you.”
“But Nathan, I’m only asking what you really think.”
“Did you figure out the kid situation? What’s the deal with that?”
“And when she uses that child to pressure you to come back, uses the old folks to manipulate you–are you really gonna cave?”
Nathan’s steps paused slightly.
But he still left.
Hearing the door close, Vivian looked at the caregiver cleaning up nearby and swept everything off the
table.
Damn it!
She’d stripped naked and stood right in front of him, and it still didn’t work.
This was humiliating!
She couldn’t let this continue. If the Harrison family kept pushing Nathan and Amelia together, what
then?
With that thought, a plan formed. She found someone’s number and made a call…
Meanwhile
Nathan came down from upstairs.
He got into the Bentley’s driver’s seat but didn’t start the engine right away.
He lit a cigarette and watched the smoke curl up outside the windows.
That incident from a year ago…
Even now, he didn’t want to think about it.

That event had thrown so many things off course.
Vivian’s parting words kept echoing in his head.
His head suddenly ached.
Nathan rubbed his temples.
He wasn’t blind to the fact that Vivian sometimes went too far, but…
Whatever. He chose to believe her.
She only had six months left.
After those six months passed, everything would go back to normal.
The cigarette burned down.
Nathan stubbed it out, called Tanner, then started the car and drove off.
Pulse Nightclub
Music and dancing everywhere.
Nathan sat by the booth’s bar area, watching people dance to heavy bass below.
Tanner pushed open the booth door and came in.
“Drinking alone?” Tanner asked, puzzled.
Nathan pointed to the seat next to him where there was a glass, ice, and liquor waiting.
Tanner sat down as Nathan poured him a drink.
Neither sat on the couch–they just leaned against the dim little bar.
“What’s going on?” Tanner took a sip and asked. “By the way, I heard your grandfather had you and Amelia go back to Moonlight Manor together today?”
“Yeah,” Nathan confirmed.
He swirled the ice in his glass, calmly watching the dancing below.
“Is your bad mood related to that?” Tanner pressed.

Nathan didn’t answer right away.
His mind was all over the place.
Images of Amelia crying and rejecting him, Vivian’s words–all of it was swirling in his head.
Out of nowhere, Nathan asked, “That girl who called you a rotten cucumber last time–how are things
with her?”
Tanner, who’d been pretty interested in Nathan’s drama, immediately deflated.
“Dude, are you trying to build your happiness on my misery?” Tanner said through gritted teeth.
Nathan hadn’t really thought about it–he was just making conversation.
Seeing Nathan zone out, Tanner didn’t hold it against him and just kept drinking. “Same as before. She’s ignoring me.”
“Seriously, I may not be the CEO of Harrison Group like you, but I’m still heir to my family’s business, right? How can she treat me like this?”
“I sent flowers, bought clothes and bags, did every kind of apology and explanation possible, but nothing
works.”
“I booked her favorite five–star Michelin restaurant–she didn’t show. When I try to reach her, she’s either busy, doesn’t have time, or just can’t be bothered.”
“Ugh!”
Tanner was getting more worked up as he talked.
He started pulling at his hair.
Finally, Tanner said, “I know what this is. She’s testing my limits.”
“Because of that thing where I went shopping with Mis Grayson.”
“Quincy’s trying to control me.”
Nathan watched the dancing below.
Yeah.

Amelia was doing the same thing.
Vivian’s words came back to him.
“Did you figure out the kid situation? What’s the deal with that?”
“And when she uses that child to pressure you to come back, uses the old folks to manipulate you–are you really gonna cave?”
He’d already told Amelia that the position of Mrs. Harrison would always be hers. She could’ve just waited quietly for the six months to pass, maybe even taken a vacation abroad. But instead, she was pulling this.
Was she trying to get more leverage for their future marriage?
Even if that kid wasn’t officially part of the Harrison family, just having a child around would definitely
make the estate bring them both back.
That way, she could use the two elderly relatives to pressure him.
She knew exactly why he’d rushed to marry her in the first place.
Plus, she could use that kid to put on a show, making him think about the child they’d lost.
Nathan’s eyes narrowed.
He’d almost fallen for her trap.
Trying to manipulate him? Ha!
The Next Morning
Amelia managed to find one of her old outfits in the closet–something she’d left behind from previous
stays.
It would have to do.
After getting ready, she headed to Lord and Lady Harrison’s residence.
But just as she was about to go in, she saw Nathan returning from outside.
Remembering last night, she didn’t want to see him again, so she just turned and walked inside.

“Amelia!”
Before she’d taken two steps, Nathan had parked and walked over to stand beside her.
Amelia ignored him and kept walking toward the house.
The next second, Nathan grabbed her and pulled her into the nearby grove, pressing her back against a
tree.
He kissed her forcefully.
“Nathan, what the hell are you–mmph.”
All her remaining words were swallowed by his lips.
