When Amelia didn’t respond, Nathan kept going: “And Mila’s condition–I’ll handle it. I’ll get the best
medical team. She’ll be fine.”
“Mila is my child. You don’t need to worry about her,” Amelia finally replied.
And his money? She wouldn’t touch it anymore.
If he had any conscience left, once they got their divorce papers, he’d return what belonged to the Time family.
Consider it payment for all the years she’d worked her ass off for him.
“Caspian’s an excellent doctor. He’ll take care of Mila,” she said.
Anger flared in Nathan’s chest again.
“Your child is my child,” Nathan said. “Amelia, do you even hear yourself?”
Amelia clenched her fists.
She wanted to snap back but held herself in check.
Today was day 23 of the cooling off period. Seven days left.
Just seven more days.
She couldn’t mess this up now.
Besides, Mila would be legally adopted under her name soon. Nathan would have zero connection to her.
Next to her, Nathan was still talking: “Look, I get that you and Harper are close–you’re best friends, t can’t argue with that. But what’s this messy situation veth Caspian?”
Amelia looked up at his in disbelief.
“Why are you making accusations?” she said. There’s thing between us.”
Nathan let out a bitter laugh

He stared into her eyes, voice icy: “I saw you two with my own eyes. Grabbing each other in that hospital
room.”
Amelia thought for a moment, then remembered that day.
“You were the one lurking outside the room?”
Nathan didn’t answer, just kept staring.
Was she admitting it? Caught red–handed?
But Amelia just found the whole thing absurd.
And then she actually laughed.
“What right do you have to question me?” Amelia said, still laughing. “Your affair with Vivian is front–page news everywhere, and now you want to police me?”
“Rules for thee but not for me?”
Never mind that there really was nothing with Caspian–she’d cleared the air with him that day, he’d agreed, and nothing inappropriate had happened since
Even if there had been something, so what?
Nathan’s lips pressed into a hard line.
“So which is it–Caspian or Louie?” he said finally.
“Or someone else entirely?”
“What’s the point of this? Trying to make me jealous? Force me to leave Vivian?”
I told you, Amelia–you’re the only Mrs. Harrison there’ll ever be. Just six months. Vivian doesn’t have
much time left.”
“Amelia, stop this nonsense, okay?” This was driving him crazy!
Amelia studied the man in front of her
Half his face was lost in shadow, leaving just those eye unnaturally sharp,
She used to love those eyes–loved seeing herself reflected in them when he looked at her

Like proof that she was all he could see.
Now the owner of those eyes was saying the cruelest things to her.
Protecting another woman while telling her to stop acting up.
Did he really think she was that desperate for him?
They fell silent.
In the dim lighting, only her earrings caught the light.
Buzz buzz buzz… buzz buzz buzz…
Nathan’s phone started vibrating.
He pulled it out.
Amelia saw Vivian’s name on the caller ID.
She smiled.
And looked away.
Nathan didn’t answer.
Buzz buzz buzz… buzz buzz buzz…
The phone kept going.
Nathan never touched the answer button.
“Why don’t you pick up? She might have something important,” Amelia said, voice dripping with sarcasm. “Maybe she fainted again? Needs you to rush over?”
“Amelia!” Nathan completely lost it.
ije hated when she used that tone with him!
But she just smiled at him coolly
Nathan gripped his phone tighter, wanting to say something, but held back in the end.
He ignored the buzzing and shoved the phone back in his pocket.

Someone walked past their table, and their chain purse accidentally knocked into the wine bottle.
The bottle wobbled, then crashed to the floor with a loud crash.
Red liquid spread everywhere.
“Oh! Mr. Harrison, I’m so sorry! Waiter…” The person shed to find someone to clean it up.
The spilled wine triggered a memory–that year they’d gone to Japan on business, drinking at the hot spring resort.
“Nathan, what if they want to drink? I don’t know how much I can handle,” Amelia had said back then.
They’d heard the client they were meeting in three days was a big drinker.
Nathan had smiled: “Don’t worry, you won’t have to drink.”
Harrison Corp was still transitioning then. Even though they were huge in New York, they were still the little guy in this new industry.
“Even if you do need to drink, I’ll handle it,” he’d said.
“I want to help you carry the load,” she’d smiled, pointing to the wine their client had sent over.
“Should we test it? See how much I can actually drink? She’d looked at him with bright eyes. “That way
I’ll know my limits.”
“You serious?” he’d asked, studying her face.
Instead of answering, she’d shown him.
She’d opened the bottle, poured two glasses, and handed him one.
He’d taken it, and she’d clinked her glass against his, eyes sparkling.
“This one’s… hoping we nail this contract,” she’d said, downing the entire glass.
He’d watched her, smiled, and finished his wine too.
She’d poured again.
Raised her glass to his.

“This one’s for you, Nathan. I hope you stay healthy and happy.”
She’d drained it again.
The alcohol was starting to hit–her cheeks were getting pink.
Outside, snow was falling heavily, thick white flakes drifting down, while inside the hot spring resort was
warm and cozy.
Watching her, he’d thought she was absolutely adorable. He’d cupped her face and kissed her lips.
Wine–flavored.
“I can keep going!” She’d pushed him away playfully and poured again.
“This one’s hoping Harrison Corp’s transition goes smoothly.”
“This one’s hoping you stay this handsome forever! Haha…”
They’d lost count of how much they drank. Their client had sent several bottles.
Finally, she’d swayed as she raised her glass: “This one.”
She’d looked at him with a smile, her eyes and heart full of nothing but him.
“This one, Nathan–here’s to us being happy forever.”
She’d only managed half that glass before she couldn’t drink anymore, getting dizzy.
And he’d kissed her lips again.
Wine spilled on the floor as he pulled her close, holding her, kissing her softly.
The air had instantly caught fire.
“We will be happy,” he’d said, voice rough with desire
Then he’d pressed her against him, their breath mingling.
That night they’d lost themselves completely.
In the room, in the hot spring, trying everything.
Red wine flowing across the floor.

Her skin tasting of him and wine.
Back at the wine tasting, servers were already cleaning up the spilled wine.
The red liquid was slowly being wiped away.
Amelia looked away.
Thinking back now, that winter in Hokkaido had been brutal.
“All cleaned up,” the server said, taking the broken glass away.
The person who’d knocked over the bottle apologized again and left.
Nathan stared at the slowly drying floor.
His mood was impossible to describe.
They’d been so in love once.
They’d weathered so many hard times together, but now…
What the hell had happened to them?
Nathan couldn’t figure it out, so he just sat in silence.
The phone in his pocket had stopped buzzing long ago.
Now they sat there, surrounded by complete quiet.
