Chapter 535

Jonathan leaned out from the driver’s seat, flashing a charming grin.

“Hop in. I’ll take you to lunch.”

Niamh shot him a sidelong glance. “I have my own car, thanks.”

“Your tire’s flat.”

“What?” She blinked, startled.

Right in front of her sat her pristine white BMW. Niamh strode over to check, and sure enough-one tire was punctured.

Jonathan climbed out and ambled to her side, looking insufferably pleased with himself. “See? My timing’s perfect, isn’t it?”

His deep, velvety voice lingered in her ear, but Niamh just rolled her eyes. “Jonathan, do you ever grow up?”

She folded her arms, glaring at him with all the indignation she could muster. Jonathan put on his most innocent expression. “You’ve got it all wrong. I didn’t do

it.”

He didn’t. But he’d certainly had someone do it for him.

Niamh eyed him skeptically, pulling her phone from her purse. Her thumb danced over the screen as she muttered, “Elmer’s tied up in a government meeting, Michael Burton’s out of town, Preston Winslow’s stuck playing intern at his dad’s resort, and Peter-well, I doubt you care about him. As for Julian, he’s getting married next month to the CEO’s granddaughter at Astraeon Networks…”

She trailed off, lips pressed together.

If Jonathan put half this effort into running the company instead of meddling with her lunch plans, maybe Thomas Group’s stock wouldn’t be in free fall.

Niamh flashed Jonathan a bright, challenging smile and shook her phone at him. “Fine. I’ll just order a ride.”/

The confident glint in Jonathan’s eyes flickered. As Niamh started tapping her app, he whipped out his own phone and dialed Prescott.

“Mr. Thomas?” Prescott answered, confused.

“I want to buy out that ride-share company. Right now.”

“…Sorry, what?”

Prescott’s mind went blank. Was Jonathan actually serious?

Niamh snatched Jonathan’s phone away and spoke directly into the receiver. “Ignore him, Prescott. There’s no acquisition in the works. Don’t listen to Jonathan’s nonsense.”

Prescott heard Niamh’s voice through the line and immediately pieced things. together. Clearly, Jonathan had failed to win her over-and now he saw the ride-share app as his new nemesis.

Prescott muttered to himself, “Should I actually go through with this? As his assistant, maybe owning the company really would make things easier…”

Niamh handed Jonathan’s phone back with a pointed look.

He grinned, eyes sparkling with mischief. “You’re really starting to sound like the lady of Thomas Group.”

“And as the company’s largest shareholder, I’m not about to let you pull any more

stunts.”

The word “also” caught his attention, making his smile widen. “So, you’ve finally accepted that we’re still married.”

Niamh’s temper flared. Of all things, why did he have to bring that up?

As far as the law was concerned, it didn’t matter whether she accepted it or not-they were still husband and wife. Any shares she got during the marriage counted as joint property.

Jonathan saw the storm brewing in her eyes and felt a pang of regret. “I just wanted to have lunch together. Is that really so much to ask?”

He lowered his gaze, looking so pitiful that anyone passing by might think she was the one bullying him.

Niamh sighed, exasperated. “Jonathan, stop wasting your time on these pointless games. Even if I have lunch with you, it won’t change my decision about the divorce.”

He met her gaze, a stubborn smile tugging at his lips. “If your mind’s made up, then every meal you share with me is a bonus. I’ll take what I can get.”

His twisted logic made her laugh despite herself. She shook her head, genuinely baffled by the way his mind worked.
