Chapter 222
“Luna’s joining the exhibition race too?”
Secretary Burnett froze-this was the first he’d heard of it.
He glanced at Selene, suspicion lacing his voice. “How did you find out?”
But the answer dawned on him almost immediately.
Of course. Carmel must have told her.
Selene and Carmel were practically inseparable. Even if Selene only had the vaguest idea about racing, there was no way she wouldn’t have heard news about Luna from Carmel.
The moment Vincent learned Luna would be competing in the exhibition, his competitive fire flared to life.
“She’s coming out of retirement?” he blurted, already relaying the news to the other staff.
“I’ll make sure she remembers-her victories were because of us! Without our expertise, Luna is nothing!”
Vincent, barely able to contain his excitement, turned to Carmel. “Unless Luna manages to get the owner of Luna Racing Club to back her up and pulls together a team better than ours, there’s no way she’s getting anywhere near the podium.”
Another engineer chimed in, pounding his fist lightly on the table for emphasis. “There isn’t a racing team in the world that can match us now! We’ll beat Luna with amateur drivers if we have to. Carmel, just wait and see!”
Carmel’s cheeks flushed a fierce pink, her round face betraying the storm inside her.
She was so furious at these arrogant foreigners that she couldn’t even speak.
Selene’s voice, cool and clear as a mountain stream, sounded right

beside her. “Well then, let’s wait and see, shall we? Try not to lose too badly.”
She flashed a small, icy smile, then pressed her chilled hand gently to Carmel’s feverish cheek. “Let’s cool down. Time to go home.”
Adrian watched Selene and Carmel’s closeness, and couldn’t help feeling á pang of jealousy.
He crossed his arms over his chest and barely spared the engineers a glance.
After Luna Racing Club disbanded, Luna’s old crew became hot commodities, snatched up by every major company in the industry, all landing cushy, high-paying jobs.
Vincent, for example-the chief engineer of Luna’s old team-even published a memoir about his days at Luna Racing Club. His experience with Luna landed him speaking gigs at top universities and an honorary guest professorship in engineering.
Thanks to Adrian’s agent scouting and signing them, they’d all hitched a ride on Luna’s fame, basking in her reflected glory.
Now, their egos were out of control.
But everyone knows-when a balloon gets too big, it’s bound to burst
from within.
Secretary Burnett watched as Selene and Carmel walked off, arms linked. He quietly snapped a photo with his phone.
Adrian turned, catching Secretary Burnett’s gaze with a look heavy with meaning.
Without hesitating, Secretary Burnett sent the photo to Harrison, along with a message:
“Mr. Vaughn, I ran into Luna’s former co-driver, Carmel, at the airport. Turns out, the reason he never accepted our offers is because he’s close

to Miss Selene.”
Harrison sat in his office, glaring at the photo. His eyes narrowed as he took in the image of Selene and Carmel walking away together. A sneer twisted his lips.
So, Selene’s found herself a pretty boy now?
Judging by that height and frame, he looked as fragile as a paper doll.
Ever since Selene left the Vaughn family, her standards had clearly taken a nosedive-couldn’t even pick someone who looked sturdy.
It was only after skimming through Secretary Burnett’s lengthy follow-up message that Harrison realized the man with Selene was none other than the co-driver he’d been trying to recruit for weeks.
Well, wasn’t that just perfect.
This co-driver had turned down Vaughn Enterprises just to please Selene.
His loss.
A moment later, a new message from Secretary Burnett popped up:
“I’ve just confirmed-Luna will be racing in the international exhibition.”
Harrison’s gaze sharpened.
Ever since that day on Bellcrest Mountain, Luna had vanished like a ghost, leaving not a single trace for Harrison to follow.
