Chapter 223
Chapter 223
He was convinced Luna was trying to bait him.
Women playing hard to get-Harrison had seen that act a thousand times before. But even after he’d auctioned off those sports cars Luna had her eye on, she still didn’t show. It made Harrison wonder if that wild race up Bellcrest Mountain had been nothing more than a fever dream-a fantasy fueled by speed and adrenaline.
Now, word was Luna would make another appearance.
Harrison fired off a voice message to Secretary Burnett. “If Luna shows up at the international racing event, keep your eyes on her. Don’t let her out of your sight!”
He couldn’t help himself; the urge was overwhelming. He wanted-no, needed to see Luna’s face. He wanted to rip off that helmet and finally learn who she really was.

The black Solarius hugged the asphalt, skimming down the road like a shadow. Carmel sat shotgun, grinning as she glanced over at Selene in
the driver’s seat.
It felt like they’d been transported back five years-or even further, to a time before everything got complicated. Even after half a decade apart, there was no awkwardness between them. It was as if their hearts had never really drifted.
“The turbo’s making a weird noise. Tonight, I’m tearing down the garage and fixing it myself!” Carmel declared.
Selene smiled. “Count me in. I’ll help.”
With Carmel beside her, the words just flowed. “Is it because I’m back that you decided to sign up for the exhibition race?”
Selene’s dark eyes stayed fixed on the road. “Carrie, I truly believe it’s never too late to start again. When I got back behind the wheel, the first

person I wanted to share it with was you.”
Carmel’s ears flushed pink at that. “You’re really going back to professional racing?”
Selene’s grip on the steering wheel tightened. “Yeah. And this time, I’m done hiding behind the Luna codename. I want the world to know the real name behind the legend-Selene.”

Luke Holloway’s SUV barreled down the road, with Adrian and Daph squeezed into the back seat. Adrian leaned forward, hands braced on the seats in front, eyes locked on the Solarius weaving through traffic ahead. “Step on it, Luke! Get closer! My wife and her lover are in that car!” Adrian
barked.
A vein throbbed dangerously at Luke’s temple. “Say one more thing and I’ll throw you out the window!”
Luke was fuming-especially with Daph sitting right there beside Adrian.
“Watch what you say in front of Daph!” he snapped.
Adrian turned to Daph, “So, does your mom really like Carmel?”
Daph nodded emphatically. “She does! And I like Carrie too!”
Adrian’s handsome face looked ghostly in the sunlight. He forced a cracked smile. “With you two so fond of Carmel, how could I possibly break you up? Guess I’ll just have to join you.”
“Adrian Shaw!” Luke erupted, voice booming through the car.
Adrian shot him a cold glance. “Please. Selene’s bed is barely big enough for three as it is. Don’t get your hopes up, there’s definitely no room for you.”
Luke’s grip on the steering wheel threatened to snap it in half. For Daph’s sake, he swallowed his fury, the taste of blood in his throat as he struggled to keep it together.

The Solarius finally pulled into an upscale neighborhood in Capital City. Carmel hopped out of the passenger seat and reached for her suitcase, but Luke grabbed it first.
“I’ve got it. I’ll take it up for you.”
Before Carmel could finish protesting, Adrian stepped in, blocking her path.
She didn’t dare meet Adrian’s eyes. Just having him standing there felt like someone had left a freezer door open-cold dread seeped into her
bones.
“Carmel.” His voice was a low warning. “You’d better sleep with one eye open.”
