Chapter 226

Chapter 226

Adrian paced back and forth beside the couch a couple of times before snatching up his phone and dialing Luke Holloway.

“Yeah?” Luke answered, his tone already impatient. Adrian’s frantic voice practically blasted through the receiver.

“Uncle Luke! You need to come pick up Daph, now! Selene and her ex finally got a chance to reconnect-let them have some privacy! She’s got a showcase match next week, and all I care about is her health! After tonight’s mess with Carmel, she can’t afford any more drama!”

As he blurted it all out, Adrian could actually feel his heart clenching with every word.

On the other end of the line, Luke Holloway was standing in a gym, sweat soaking his deep blue workout shirt so thoroughly it looked almost black. His close-cropped hair stuck up in damp little spikes across his head, making him look like a bristling hedgehog. Chest heaving from his last set, the wet fabric clung to his broad chest, highlighting the deep ridges

of muscle.

He held the phone in one hand while gripping a 45-pound dumbbell in the other. If Adrian were standing there in person, Luke would have gladly dropped the weight right on his head.

“Who said you could call me Uncle?” Luke snapped, barely holding back a string of curses.

Adrian, dead serious, shot back, “You don’t like it when I call you Uncle, do you? That’s just because you’re not used to it. Give it some time-I’ll say it enough that you get used to it.”

Luke’s tone went glacial. “Are you trying to test how long you’ll live?”

Adrian steered the conversation back on track. “If you won’t come get Daph, I’ll do it. But I can’t promise I’ll keep my fists to myself. Honestly, Carmel belongs in jail, but if Selene found out, it’d break her heart. I can’t let that happen.”

Luke could practically feel a headache pulsing behind his eyes as Adrian rambled on, sounding genuinely miserable.

He finally snapped. “Carmel’s a woman. She’s Selene’s best friend, you idiot! She’s even signed onto your own racing club-do you really not know if she’s got a…” He trailed off, exasperated.

Adrian’s long lashes fluttered upward in shock; it took him a couple of seconds to process. “Carmel… is a woman?”

Before Luke could answer, he heard Adrian ask, “Is it too late for me to

move to Thailand?”

Luke’s lips twitched upward, his eyes flashing dangerously. “You better make good on that threat!”

In an instant, Adrian’s mood shifted from death’s door to full-blown defiance. He yelled, “Don’t think you’ll get a chance, you sneaky brat!”

The call ended abruptly, leaving a virtual question mark hovering over Luke’s head. He tossed his phone aside, grabbed the barbell, and

launched into another furious set.

Adrian, just you wait.

No one was ever going to steal his moon away from him again.

Late at night, the doorbell rang.

Selene was in the shower. Daph was tucked away in her bedroom, flipping through a picture book.

“I’m coming!” Carmel called out, thinking the supermarket delivery had finally arrived. She shuffled to the door in her slippers and swung it open. Standing outside was Harrison, dressed to the nines in a tailored suit and a long black wool coat draped over his broad shoulders. His hands were shoved deep into his pockets, and he brought a blast of cold night air in with him.

Behind Harrison stood two uniformed officers and a lawyer.

The moment Harrison looked up and saw the “man” standing in the doorway, his pupils narrowed in shock.

His first thought was, I must’ve rung the wrong doorbell.
