Amelia pulled herself together. She needed to stop overthinking and get Mila to preschool before they
were late.
Plus Louie needed time to handle his stuff.
He’d already messaged that everything was sorted, so he didn’t need to stress.
With that thought, Amelia’s mind settled as she drove pick
pick up Mila.
But Mila seemed off this morning–like she had something to say.
The director too, looked like she was holling something back.
Amelia glanced between Mila and the director.
Waiting for one of them to speak up.
But neither Mila nor the director said anything in the end.
So Amelia didn’t push. She figured they had their reasons and the right to keep things private.
“Ready to go?” Amelia said.
Seeing Mila nod, Amelia grabbed her backpack and they headed to preschool together.
“Aunt Amelia, can you pick me up this afternoon?” Mil suddenly asked before going into the building.
Usually Amelia picked up Mila anyway. If she was swamped, she’d send someone Mila knew–Harper and Se7ven, James and his crew, Louie, whoever.
Mila normally didn’t ask, so bringing it up meant she ally wanted Amelia there.
Amelia touched Mila’s little round face,
Crouching down to her level, she said: “I’ll do my best to make it. If I can’t, I’ll come see you tonight. Promise we’ll hang out, okay?”
Mila beamed, eyes sparkling, and nodded enthusiastically before heading into preschool.

But after just a couple steps, she seemed to remember something and ran back to kiss Amelia’s cheek.
Then she bounced off to school grinning.
Amelia touched her cheek, warmth spreading through her.
Her bond with Mila kept getting stronger.
It made her feel all fuzzy inside.
After watching Mila disappear into her classroom, Amelia drove to Cavendish Entertainment.
S:30 AM–Amelia parked outside the building. She threw on a disguise and headed up.
Ever since those paparazzi shots of her and Louie dropped, she’d been way more careful about coming
here.
She slipped into the most private conference room and pulled off her mask.
“Be there around 9,” came Louie’s voice message.
Amelia nodded and grabbed a notebook to sketch.
She still had finale details to nail down for Voice of Heaven.
Time flew, and soon the door opened. Amelia looked up–Louie.
His expression was all kinds of fucked up. He shut the door and sat across from her.
“What happened?” Amelia asked, reading his face. “You look like hell.”
Louie drummed his fingers on the wooden table, like he was trying to find the right words.
This blew Amelia’s mind.
Louie was usually a hothead who said whatever–poppet into his brain. What could make him this
careful?
She called him on it.
“I can think before I talk, thanks!” Louie shot back. Last night the old man had basically called him stupid.
So fucking annoying!

“Whatever, I’ll just lay it out,” Louie said, throwing in the towel. “This morning at the family compound…”
Two hours earlier,
Cavendish family estate.
Louie had been playing spy the whole time.
The second his older brothers showed up, he’d go stir up shit.
Those two sharks were dying to destroy him and wouldn’t waste this golden opportunity.
Getting the investors to pressure Elena into quitting was their best shot right now!
Sure, Cavendish Entertainment would still get Voice of Heaven revenue later, but Elena’s commercial value would be toast.
The show mattered, but not as much as Elena’s future deals–endorsements, sponsorships, all that big
money stuff!
Take down Elena, and Louie would have nothing to show for all his work.
So his brothers kept fucking with him at every turn.
Snide comments here, brown–nosing there, cutting side deals, the whole nine yards.
And Percival? He didn’t give a shit.
It was survival of the fittest–if you got eaten alive, that was your problem.
Finally everyone showed up. Louie steeled himself and walked into the conference room to face the
music.
The room was full of different power players, plenty of them Team Older Brothers. Even after Amelia had won over Percival, Louie still needed to convince these assholes–that’s how politics worked.
“Louie, you dodged our calls all night. Today you better give us some fucking answers,” someone jumped on him the second he walked in.
“Yeah, this is everyone’s project. If it gets axed from above, we’re all screwed. You can’t cover that kind of
loss!”
“I actually texted you a solution–just dump Elena and we’re golden. That’s how other shows handle

problem contestants.”
“Exactly. Cut the dead weight and keep the project alive. We’ve all blacklisted A-listers before–nothing personal.”
Everyone started talking over each other, all pressuring Louie for answers.
Louie looked at these vultures, jaw tight.
Sure, what they were saying was standard damage control, but half of them were clearly loving the
drama. He could fucking tell!
Thank Christ Amelia had figured out a game plan, or these people would’ve torn him apart today.
“Uh…” Louie cleared his throat, ready to deliver their prepared excuse.
But right then, Lester Wessex, who’d been messing around on his phone in the corner, suddenly knocked
on the table.
“Hey everyone, listen up!” Lester pocketed his phone.
The Wessex family was one of New York’s big three, and unlike the Cavendish circus, the Wessex siblings actually got along. Nobody wanted to piss off Lester.
“About Elena–the Wessex family’s got something to say” Lester announced.
Everyone turned to stare at Louie.
They all knew Wessex Corp had only jumped in as sponsors two days ago. With this major shitshow happening so fast, they’d definitely want blood.
With all the investor reps here today, if Lester said anything bad about Louie, it would basically be game
over for Cavendish Entertainment!
So a bunch of people watched Louie like he was about to get executed.
His two brothers at the table were smirking like they’d already won.
After all, becoming a last–minute sponsor meant the Wessex family had zero relationship with Louie beforehand.
“We Wessex family…”
