Chapter 15

Jeremy walked in and saw a familiar figure from behind. “Lexi?”

He blurted it out, but quickly realized he had mistaken her for someone else.

Lexi was just an ordinary woman. How could she possibly be the president of Shaw Group?

She didn’t turn around and deliberately lowered her voice. “Lexi?”

Jeremy explained, “Sorry, Ms. Shaw. I thought you were someone else. Your back looks a lot like my wife’s. But my wife’s just a regular woman. She’s not someone as powerful as you.”

Lexi let out a cold laugh, mocking how blindly confident he was. She said icily, “I heard you insisted on

meeting me. What exactly do you want to say, Mr. Frey?”

A flicker of something dark flashed in Jeremy’s eyes. “Ms. Shaw, I heard you and Mr. Garner are getting

married soon, but he’s still keeping a mistress. And that mistress happens to be my wife. You wouldn’t

want to start a marriage only to find out your husband’s got another woman on the side, would you?”

Sunlight streamed over Lexi’s figure, casting her in gold, but her whole demeanor was turning colder by

the second. She asked, “How many men could stay loyal these days? How do you feel about that sort of

thing, Mr. Frey?”

Jeremy frowned, trying to sound righteous. “If one’s married, then he should stay faithful. Cheating is

wrong, no matter who it is.”

Listening to him, Lexi laughed harder. She turned to face him, clearly unimpressed.

“Wow. I didn’t know someone could be this shameless. Jeremy, do you not feel even a little guilty saying things like that?”

She stood with the light behind her, casting shadows over her face, but even so, he recognized her

immediately. His face froze in shock.

“Lexi? Are you the president of Shaw Group?”

He couldn’t believe it, but all the pieces were right in front of him. “You told me you didn’t have parents…

How are you suddenly running Shaw Group?”

She raised a brow and stepped closer, her voice dripping with mockery. “Back then, I didn’t. I cut ties with my family for you, and they refused to acknowledge me. At that point, I was indeed on my own.

“But right after I left you, my parents couldn’t wait to bring me home and put me in charge of the

company. So now, yes, Shaw Group is mine.”

Jeremy looked sour, but thinking about how she’d turned her back on everything just to be with him, he realized she must’ve truly loved him back then. He slowly stepped forward, trying to pull her into a hug, only for her to sidestep him with disgust.

She glanced coldly at the spot where he’d touched her, as if it had dirtied her.

“Lexi, nothing’s going on between me and Tricia. She just came back, and I helped her for old times’ sake. She’s staying at our place because her apartment’s still under renovation.

“The truth is, I’ve loved you for a long time. I just didn’t realize it back then. That’s why you ended up going through so much because of me.

“Lexi, give me another chance. Let’s start over and forget all the bad stuff. You always told me you didn’t like living down south. If that’s the case, I’ll move Frey Group’s headquarters here to Juville and spend the rest of my life with you.”

Everything he said came from the heart, but all it did was make her laugh.

“Jeremy, do you not understand human language? I don’t have feelings for you anymore. But since you’re my ex-husband, I’ll save you a good seat at the wedding in two weeks out of courtesy.”

Every word she said was like a knife straight to his chest.

His fists clenched, and his eyes became teary. “Lexi, you’re the one who drugged me back then. You

started this, so you don’t get to just walk away! If you insist on marrying Henry, don’t blame me for what happens next.”
