Chapter 18
After returning, Jeremy had someone look into it. But since the shareholders had taken turns tearing into him all afternoon, he hadn’t had the time to deal with Tricia, though she had ended up admitting everything herself.
Tricia was shaking all over. She looked up at him with tears spilling down her face. “Jeremy, I’m sorry, I was wrong… I just love you too much. Give me another chance.
“Lexi’s gone now, so let me take care of you, okay? We can get married, have a baby, and build a life together. I promise-once we’re married, I’ll be a good wife to you.”
He curled his lips into a cold smirk. “Be my wife? Do you think you’re worthy? Tricia, out of respect for what we used to have, I’ll let you go this time, but get rid of the baby.
“From now on, you’re not allowed to show your face in Tenby or Juville again. If I see you again, I’ll settle every score, old and new.” The cold gleam in his eyes cut like ice.
She collapsed to the floor. “Jeremy, you’re heartless!”
He ignored her and called his assistant in to drag her out.
The next morning, Jeremy was woken by a call from his assistant. “Mr. Frey, we’ve got a problem. Ms. Lowe ran off while I was escorting her away.”
Jeremy frowned slightly. “Let her. Don’t waste time chasing her. Check Lexi’s schedule instead.”
The assistant hesitated for a long moment before finally saying, “Mr. Frey, the whole city knows the Shaw and Garner families are about to be joined through marriage. No matter what you do now, it won’t change anything. And frankly, the shareholders are getting really frustrated with you staying in Juville. Maybe you should-”
Before he could finish, Jeremy cut in coldly, “So what if the whole city knows? Back then, the whole of Tenby knew Lexi loved me, too. You’re just an assistant. You should know your boundaries.”
The assistant didn’t dare say another word and quietly left the room.
The night before the engagement, Henry took Lexi to an auction, planning to give her something special as a wedding gift.
The venue was dazzling, lit up like it was daytime.
People coming and going would lower their heads respectfully and greet them, “Mr. Garner, Ms. Shaw.”
Henry brought Lexi to a private suite on the top floor. Just as they were about to head up, Jeremy stepped out and blocked their way.
“Lexi, what a coincidence. We meet again. Don’t you think that’s fate?”

Lexi’s gaze turned cold. In just a few days, no matter where she went, she kept running into Jeremy.
Once could be a coincidence, but every single time? That was a setup.
“Jeremy, are you a damn leech? What’s the point of following me around every day? You chasing after me like this is honestly just pathetic.”
Jeremy stiffened. The words sounded all too familiar.
Back when she used to follow him around, he’d said something nearly identical. “Lexi, I’m in love with Tricia. You chasing me all the time just makes me respect you even less.”
Now, the roles were reversed, and she was throwing the same words back in his face.
But he didn’t look embarrassed at all. Instead, he smiled and said, “You used to chase me, and now, it’s my turn to chase you. I believe you’ll be moved by me one day. I’ll wait for you.”
Lexi frowned. “You’re insane.”
Henry took the opportunity to make things clear, wrapping his arm around her waist and mocking, ” Jeremy, I never figured you’d be into chasing taken women. How classy. But the bond between Lexi and me is rock solid, and not just any guy can come between us.’
With a cold snort, he wrapped his arm tighter around her and led her upstairs.
Jeremy tried to follow, but a waiter blocked his path. “Sir, we need to verify your assets before you can access the private suites upstairs.”
Jeremy’s face fell. “Do you think I don’t have money?”
The waiter kept a professional tone. “Guests on the top floor all have net worths in the billions. I just need to confirm you meet the criteria.”
