Chapter 21

Lexi paused for a few seconds before asking Jeremy, “And what if I don’t?”

On the other end of the line, Jeremy’s breathing was clearly heavy. His voice came through, cold as ice.

“If you don’t love me anymore, then I don’t mind being hated by you either. Hate lasts longer than love. As long as you remember me for the rest of your life, I don’t care how.”

She narrowed her eyes, thinking that he had completely lost his mind.

After a long silence, he added, “It’s fine. There’s still time before the wedding. I’ll wait. Lexi, I’ll wait for you to give me a better ending.”

Her eyes gleamed with cold light, and her expression was gloomy. “Jeremy, aren’t you afraid I’ll crush the Frey Group and leave you with nothing?”

Even now, she sounded as calm and composed as ever.

His heart clenched. “You wouldn’t. We built the Frey Group together. I know you wouldn’t destroy it. You’re too soft-hearted for that.”

Hearing that, she laughed mockingly. “Jeremy, you don’t know me at all. I’m known for being ruthless. When I was in school, a girl bullied me, and I brought people over and beat her half to death.

“On my 21st birthday, someone spread nasty rumors about me out of jealousy. The next day, I made sure her whole family went bankrupt.

“And when I found out you cheated on me, right when I discovered I was pregnant, I didn’t hesitate to go straight to the hospital for an abortion. Jeremy, do you still think I’m soft-hearted?”

There was no response on the other end. He was stunned by everything she’d said.

He had always seen her as obedient and gentle. It was only now that he felt like he was seeing the real her for the first time.

Hearing nothing from his side, she gave a cold scoff and ended the call without hesitation. Then, she made another call and said only one thing, “I want to see the news about Frey Group going bankrupt before 10:00 pm.”

The person on the other end didn’t know what had happened but responded right away, “Don’t worry, Ms. Shaw. It won’t take that long. You’ll have what you want by 8:00 pm.”

Luke had always treated her like a child. But at that moment, he realized she’d truly grown up.

“Lexi, Jeremy is a sneaky, ruthless man. Even though some of the rumors he spread aren’t true, the fact remains. You’ve been married, and you had a child.

“It’s your wedding day tomorrow. With all this coming out, let me go with you to explain things to the Garner family.” Luke had held power his entire life and never had to lower his head. But this time, he was

ready to step in for her.

She shook her head. “Dad, the moment Henry and I decided to get married, I told him everything. He’ll handle it with his family. That’s my past. I made a mistake trusting the wrong person. I didn’t break the law.”

Hearing what she said, Luke suddenly saw things clearly. He looked at her with a mix of relief and pride.

‘Lexi, you’ve really grown up. I get it now. I’ve watched Henry grow up. He’s liked you since he was little. The two of you will be just fine.”

She nodded. “We will.”

By midnight, she was still awake, staring at her phone. She’d sounded calm earlier, but deep down, she

wasn’t.

Ever since she got back to her room, she’d been waiting for Henry to call.

But night had fallen, and still, he hadn’t called. Her eyes gradually dimmed. Then suddenly, her phone lit up. It was Henry. He was finally calling.
