It made sense. After all, it was already a blessing that a divorcee like Noelle could marry someone close to her age, much less a rich man. Rich people weren’t stupid either.
As if reading Conner’s mind, Yasmine raised an eyebrow and asked, “What’s the matter? Does the man Noelle is marrying live in the eastern suburb?”
Yasmine’s face was filled with disdain. There weren’t many in Norland who could rival the Ashford family. A man who could match up to them could marry anyone he wanted, so why would he settle for Noelle?
Yasmine sighed theatrically. “To think that someone who used to be in our family would end up in this
horrible state. How tragic!”
Although she was lamenting Noelle’s fate, Yasmine looked more than pleased. Nothing could hide the arrogance and satisfaction on her face.
Conner’s heart was finally at ease. He was no longer hysterical and could now think clearly. “Mom, let the driver send you home and rest. I’ll stay and accompany Sabrina.”
It was only then that Yasmine let her exhaustion show. “It is getting late. I’m exhausted.”
Suddenly, she seemed to recall something. “Oh, right. I heard the discussion regarding the project at the city center finally went through.”
At the mention of work, Conner looked confident. “It’s already settled. We’re just waiting for them to be free so we can head over to their office to sign the contract. After that, we’ll finally be done with this
matter.”
Yasmine patted Conner’s shoulder, satisfied. “Not bad. With that contract, we’ll be able to reach our company’s performance targets for this year.”
She sighed. “I’m getting old. I’m not as smart and efficient as you young’uns anymore. Cole Group is known to be fastidious, so I didn’t expect you to reach an agreement with them so soon. Soon, I’ll have to hand the company off to you.”
Conner held Yasmine’s hand. “Mom, this is all thanks to you paving the way for me. As long as you’re still able, the company will always be yours to manage.”
Yasmine smiled. “I’m not that spry. Once Sabrina gives birth, I’ll spend my remaining days taking care of my grandchild and travelling. With you taking over the company, I’m at ease.”
Inside the ward, Sabrina was lying in bed, staring blankly at the fallen apple on the floor for a long time, trembling. She only relaxed a little when Conner walked into the room.
Conner was confused. “Why didn’t you rest?”

Then, he saw the half–peeled apple on the floor and the knife on the table.
Sabrina explained, “I couldn’t sleep, so I tried to peel an apple for myself, but I dropped it.”
Conner picked up the apple and threw it into the trash can. Then, he grabbed another apple and said as he peeled it, “I’ll peel you an apple if you want to eat one. There’s no need for you to lift a finger. Stay away from knives from now. You might hurt yourself.”
