Chapter 7
Sabrina’s scream drew Yasmine’s and half the housekeepers‘ attention. By the time they crowded the door, Sabrina had slammed Noelle down onto the bed and clamped her fingers around her throat.
Sabrina’s suffocation slowly overwhelmed Noelle. She’d barely managed to turn her head toward Conner, who’d been shoved far away and stayed frozen in shock across the room.
“Help… me…” Her frail voice–like a dying mosquito’s hum–never woke him up from his daze.
Fortunately, Yasmine finally pushed her way through the crowd. For a second, Noelle thought she was saved, but she quickly realized that she was very wrong.
“Sabrina, your pregnancy isn’t stable yet, so don’t fuss yourself over something like this.” She fussed over
Sabrina, carefully soothing her.
Noelle’s face burned crimson as her throat tightened, but not the slightest sound came out of her.
Meanwhile, Yasmine protectively hovered over Sabrina and shielded her belly with meticulous care, unbothered by Noelle’s pain.
Resignation and cold despair crept through Noelle’s chest. Then, just as she thought she was going to
faint from the suffocation, Conner finally seemed to shake himself awake.
He then lifted Sabrina off the bed and held her close as if the baby in her womb might be harmed.
Yasmine anxiously scampered over and kept her concerned gaze on Sabrina until she was seated. “Are you alright? Does your stomach hurt?” she asked in a voice tight with worry.
Noelle drew in thin, ragged breaths as her eyes fell on Conner. However, his attention was fixed entirely
on Sabrina.
Yasmine’s question seemed to jolt him too. He gave Sabrina a worried once–over. “Sabrina, are you sure
you’re okay?”
Eyes round with fury and face flushed, Sabrina pointed at Noelle on the bed. “How dare you try to seduce Caleb! You’re the most shameless woman I’ve ever met, and if I get so mad that I lose this baby, it’ll be all
your fault!”
Her voice cracked into sobs as she buried herself against Conner’s chest, wailing and sobbing her heart
out.
At the door, the housekeepers whispered among themselves, their voices sharp with condemnation.
“Who would’ve thought Mrs. Noelle would stoop so low? I used to think she was only devoted to Mr.
Conner.”
“It’s not even been that long… The nerve…”
Yasmine got up and shooed them off. “What are you all staring at? I pay you to work, not gossip.”

The housekeepers scattered, and the commotion in the hallway quickly died down. However, the sound of Sabrina’s sobbing was still sharp and piercing.
When she finally had enough of crying and lifted her head, her eyes shimmered with pitiful tears. “Caleb, she came on you, didn’t she?”
Conner’s chest ached at the sight of her tear–swollen eyes.
They’d worked so hard to get Sabrina pregnant. Once the child was safely born, he could finally end everything and return to Noelle’s side.
For now, no trouble was allowed.
He gave Sabrina soft, gentle pats on the shoulder. “Don’t be upset. She had too much to drink and
mistook me for Conner since she misses him so much.”
Gritting her teeth, Noelle gave a brittle laugh as she watched Conner coddle Sabrina.
She’d had too much to drink and mistook him for someone else? What a convenient excuse.
Even with that excuse, Sabrina’s indignation barely eased. She turned to Yasmine, who’d always taken her side. Then, she pitifully said, “Yasmine, I’ve fought so hard for this pregnancy, and now, someone’s trying
to run it.
“Don’t blame me if something happens to the baby. Blame the one who’s responsible instead.”
Then, her gaze slid toward the bed where Noelle lay.
Seasoned in smoothing over family tempers, Yasmine knew the perfect way to ease Sabrina’s fury. She folded her arms and glared at Noelle. “Sabrina’s not petty. Get up and apologize to her, and we’ll let this
slide.”
Pale yet steady, Noelle pushed herself upright and let out a low, humorless scoff. “Me? Apologize to her?”
