Chapter 77
After Noelle left, Jason returned to Sebastian’s ward.
Sebastian was lost in his own irritation, barely acknowledging Jason’s presence when he walked in.
Jason took off his white coat, instantly looking more relaxed, and sank into the couch by the bed. He gave Sebastian a few sideways glances. However, Sebastian remained lost in his own thoughts, not even
glancing Jason’s way.
Jason propped his chin in one hand, studying him with a smirk. “So, this woman is who you’ve been hung up on all these years? Weird. I don’t remember ever seeing her.”
“You didn’t know her back then. Of course, you don’t remember,” Sebastian said with a faint frown.
Jason looked even more puzzled. “We’ve been friends since we were kids. You’ve been into her since your
were seven, and I’ve never met her?”
Sebastian wasn’t in the mood to argue. Thinking back to what Noelle had just said, his expression fell. ” From now on, don’t give her that sour look in front of her.”
Jason blinked, caught off guard by the sudden scolding. He spread his hands in confusion. “I didn’t do anything. Everyone knows this is just how I look. I’m not known for my smile.”
Sebastian narrowed his eyes. “But she doesn’t. That look will make her feel uncomfortable.”
Jason threw his hands out, completely baffled. Who was he supposed to even take this up with?
He frowned as he asked, “Did she tell you I made her uncomfortable?”
Sebastian let out a small chuckle. “No. I just think that she would.”
Jason’s irritation spiked. “Oh, sure. You’re throwing your buddy under the bus for a woman, huh?”
Sebastian didn’t even hesitate when he said, “She’s not just any woman. She’s my wife.”
Jason scoffed, clearly annoyed. “You two aren’t even married yet.”
Sebastian raised a brow. “We will be. Just make sure you’ve got your wedding gifts ready for us.”
“Lame. Totally lame,” Jason muttered. He was done with the conversation. Somehow, every turn just left him feeling like the one taking all the hits.
He got to his feet with a sharp snort. “I’m done putting up with this. I’m going straight to your parents to tell them exactly what you’ve been pulling!”
Sebastian’s brow furrowed. He knew all too well what Jason meant to tattle about. His tone softened,
edging into guilt as he said, “Jason… we’re best friends, right?”
He was trying to play on Jason’s camaraderie, hoping it would remind him they were supposed to be on

the same side.

But Jason just gave a sharp, dismissive huff. “Exactly. And the closer we are, the more reason I have to
tell them.”
He shrugged and went on, “Last time, I heard you wore cologne you knew you were allergic to just to impress her. Now, tonight, you eat food you knew you were allergic to and nearly send yourself to the ER. You keep pulling stunts like this, and sooner or later, it’s going to catch up to you.”
Irritated, Sebastian rubbed the bridge of his nose and said plainly, “Noelle put it on my plate. I had to eat it.
Jason was utterly speechless. What kind of logic was that? He couldn’t even tell anymore if Sebastian was showing off or just hopeless.
Fuming, Jason shot back, “So what, you’re going to eat whatever she serves you? What if she gave you-”
Sebastian’s eyes snapped up, cutting him off with a look sharp enough to be a warning. “That’s enough. Don’t put Noelle’s name in the same breath as something disgusting like that.”
Jason mentally rolled his eyes. “With all the things you’re allergic to, it looks like this won’t be the last time something like this happens.
“So, do me a favor–next time you plan on pulling a stunt like this, send me a heads–up first so I can have another doctor handle it. That way I’m not rushing back here every time, all worked up, just to pull an extra
shift at the hospital.”
