Noelle’s words snapped Conner back to his senses

The Novara Corporation had just managed to reclaim a project with the Cole Group, so now was not the

time to risk stirring up bad press. The project wasn’t just crucial for the Novara Corporation; it was equally important to him

If he pulled it off, Yasmine would finally feel secure enough to hand the company over to him. If he failed, she would definitely step in again, and their very different ways of doing things would only lead to clashes

Conner regained his composure, his eyes softening as he looked at Noelle. Noelle, trust me. I gave you

my word, and I don’t go back on my promises. You can take your oil painting. Let me help you.”

With that, he stepped forward and began taking the oil painting down himself

Watching his back, Noelle’s lips curved into a faint, mocking smile. So much for not going on his own

promises. On their wedding day, he had sworn he would never upset her

And now, every heartbreak, every disappointment, and every single blow had come from him

It was in moments like this that she finally understood that trusting men would only lead to misery

After Conner took the painting down, he said, Let me give you a ride. A canvas this big isn’t exactly easy

to carry, and you don’t even have a car with you.”

Noelle didn’t hesitate. Don’t bother. It’s just a painting. How difficult could it be to carry it?”

At that, his expression shifted instantly, the warmth gone. He made no move to hand the painting over

Noelle couldn’t hold it in anymore and rolled her eyes. She knew exactly what Conner was getting at. If

she didn’t agree to let him drive her, she wasn’t getting the painting. Simple as that

She reminded herself that this was the last time that she would let herself get pulled into this kind of

pointless encounter with him. She just had to bear with it one last time, and it’d all be over

She shrugged. Fine, you can drive me.”

When Sabrina heard that Conner was taking Noelle home, her composure nearly snapped

But instead of making a scene, she went for a subtler jab. Caleb is just being a gentleman, Noelle. But you really shouldn’t trouble him.”

Noelle’s smile was almost impossible to hide. You’re right. Mr. Ashford, I really shouldn’t trouble you. Why don’t I just head back on my own?”

Conner didn’t even glance at Sabrina. While he carried the painting toward the garage, he said, It’s late. It’s not safe for you to be out alone.”

Sabrina’s jaw tightened as she glared at Noelle

That only served to pique Nolle’s interest. If Sabrina was so eager to poke at her, she had no intention of

letting her off easy

Noelle stepped a little closer to Conner and said, Thanks. With you giving me a ride, I couldn’t feel safer.”

Sabrina stomped her foot in frustration. But with Yasmine busy elsewhere, no one was there to stand up

for Sabrina

She was wound so tightly that she could barely stand still. And then, she finally blew up
