Noelle finally snapped fully awake when the bedroom door closed behind them; memories from the car by the river began to flood her mind.
She quickly wriggled out of Sebastian’s arms, darted toward the bathroom, and shut the door behind her.
Sebastian was left standing outside the bathroom, slightly taken aback. He frowned and stared at the
faint silhouette inside. “What’s wrong?”
Noelle was standing beside the door, completely still. She spoke in a rush. “Nothing. I just want to take a
shower first.”
Sebastian smiled as he looked at the door. He said gently, “Alright. I’ll wait for you.”
Noelle stayed by the door, tilting her head back toward the bathroom ceiling. The lights cast a warm glow over her eyes. Countless images flashed through her mind, mingled with the memory of soft and
breathless murmurs.
Noelle was stunned. She was no stranger to intimacy, but she had never been that bold before. A deep
flush spread across her cheeks.
She stayed in the shower for so long that Sebastian knocked on the door several times, worried she might have fainted inside.
Noelle wrapped herself in a dark towel and opened the door, only to find Sebastian waiting outside.
A haze of steam clung to her figure, and her freshly washed skin carried a faint flush.
Sebastian found it hard to look away, and his gaze left Noelle feeling a little self–conscious.
She lowered her head. “Why are you waiting here?”
Sebastian snapped out of it, worried she might think he was some kind of creep. He quickly explained,” You were taking so long. I was afraid something was wrong.”
Noelle lifted her gaze, and her eyes were misty. “So, the reason you showed up so quickly when I called was because you were already waiting outside the Spencer residence?”
As soon as she finished speaking, she wondered if she was reading too much into it.
She quickly added, “Or was it just that you happened to pass by? Or did you have some business with the Spencers?”
Sebastian replied without hesitation. “No. I was waiting outside the Spencer residence.”
His gaze burned with an intensity that felt as if it could consume her whole.
The warm steam from the bathroom drifted outward, and the air between them grew heavier.
Chapter 87
The rising heat made Sebastian’s throat tighten. He figured if they stayed in the same room any longer, something might happen.
“Lydia has prepared the guest room. I’ll stay there tonight,” he offered.
Just as he turned, he felt a damp hand close around his wrist
Noelle’s slender fingers barely managed to wrap around his wrist. Her expression held a trace of guilt. No, no. I can’t let you stay in the guest room.”
In her upbringing and understanding, it was absolutely unacceptable to let someone who had helped her end up staying in the guest room, especially when he was the owner of the house.
Sebastian’s eyes glinted with a touch of roguish charm as he asked, “Are you trying to make me stay?”
Noelle was startled and nearly let go of his hand.
She had already been bold enough in the car. Her boldness back then was out of necessity, so if she were to be forward again now, would Sebastian start to think she was a woman who’s pretty eager?
Her cheeks flushed at the thought. She quickly released his hand and explained, “No, that’s not what I
meant.”
Her answer left Sebastian clearly disappointed.
He looked down at his wrist. Moments ago, it had been warmed by her touch, but now it just hung there
alone.
