Chapter 16

Jasmine shook off Timothy’s hand. “Compared to you two, at least Sebastian respects me.”

“No, you don’t understand! The Campbells have been suppressing the Horinton businesses all these years. He’s only close to you to swallow up Lane Group!”

She laughed. “Timothy, do you really think I’d still believe you?”

Before he could say more, the housekeeper returned. “Ms. Lane, Mr. Campbell has arrived.”

Sebastian strode in, his long legs carrying him confidently. His gaze swept briefly over Timothy. “Am I interrupting you guys?”

Jasmine shook her head gently. “Nope. We’re all done.”

Watching the unspoken understanding between them, Timothy clenched his fists. “We finally meet, Mr. Campbell.”

Sebastian greeted him with a polite nod, then turned to Jasmine. “I passed by a jewelry store and saw

this. Thought it might suit you.”

He opened a velvet box, revealing a diamond necklace. The centerpiece was a rare pink diamond, glowing brilliantly under the light.

Jasmine’s eyes widened in pleasant surprise. “What is this?”

“An engagement gift,” he answered casually. “Do you like it?”

She nodded. “I do. It’s gorgeous. Thank you, Sebastian.”

Sebastian stepped behind Jasmine and gently fastened the necklace around her neck. The cold diamonds brushed against her skin, making her shiver slightly.

Timothy watched the entire scene unfold, his expression darkening by the second.

“Is there something else you need, Mr. Smith?” asked the composed Sebastian.

Timothy drew a sharp breath. “Jas, whether you believe me or not, I’m truly doing this for your good.”

He cast a pointed glance at Sebastian and warned, “You’d better be good to her, Mr. Campbell.”

Sebastian hugged Jasmine’s shoulders. “Don’t worry. No one will appreciate my wife more than I do.”

With one last look at Jasmine, Timothy turned on his heel and left.

“What was he here for?” Sebastian asked.

She briefly explained the equity transfer. His eyes narrowed slightly, as if piecing something together. “I see. They’re starting to panic.”

“About what?”

“They’re panicking not just about losing you, but also their only key to the top-tier circles in Jenvil.” He sneered. “All they ever prioritize is profit.”

Jasmine lowered her gaze. “I should’ve seen through them long ago.”

He gently tilted her chin up. “It’s not too late now.”

His warm touch sent a rush of heat through her chest, causing her heartbeat to race. Their eyes met, and

in his dark gaze, she caught a flicker of something she couldn’t quite name.

“Sebastian,” she muttered. “Why did you say yes to this engagement?”

Sebastian released her face. “Because it’s a business arrangement with mutual benefits.”

“Is that the only reason?”

He pondered for a while, then answered, “Not really.”
