Chapter 19
Jasmine took a step back. “Mr. Payne, I believe we’re done here.”
“Don’t be so cold,” Joseph replied, moving closer. “I heard you had some trouble in Horinton. Maybe I
could help you…”
Just then, Sebastian’s cold voice came from the doorway. “Joseph, do you have a death wish?”
Joseph’s expression changed as he turned to see Sebastian standing there with four bodyguards, his eyes sharp as daggers.
He chuckled nervously as he backed away, mumbling, “Mr. Campbell, this is a misunderstanding. I was just joking around with Ms. Lane…”
Sebastian strode forward and grabbed Joseph by the collar. He hissed, “Listen carefully… If you dare come near my fiancee again, I’ll make sure the Payne Group goes bankrupt by tomorrow.”
Cold sweat broke out on Joseph’s forehead. “Mr. Campbell, let’s not be so rash.”
Sebastian shoved him away and turned to Lynette. He scoffed and asked, “As for you, Ms. Gardner. Do you think latching onto Joseph will solve all your problems?”
Lynette’s face went pale as she hid behind Joseph.
Then, Sebastian wrapped his arm around Jasmine’s shoulder and said, “Let’s go.”
After they left the club and got in the car, Jasmine realized her hands were trembling slightly.
Sebastian took her hands and comforted her, “It’s all over now. Joseph won’t dare bother you again.”
Jasmine took a deep breath.
He continued, “I just got a word that confirmed my suspicions. Just as I suspected, Timothy introduced Lynette to Joseph with the condition that the Payne Group would invest to save the Smith Group from
their crisis.”
Jasmine’s expression hardened.
Sebastian started the car and assured her, “Don’t worry. Starting tomorrow, all of the Payne Group’s projects in Jenvil will encounter unexpected problems.”
Jasmine glanced at his chiseled profile, a warm feeling blooming in her chest. “Thank you, Sebastian.”
He turned his head to look at her, his gaze softening. “We’re beyond thank-yous.”
When they got home, Natalie was already asleep.
Jasmine had just finished her shower when her phone suddenly rang. It was a text from an unknown number. The photo showed Lynette disheveled and snuggling up to Joseph in what was clearly a hotel
room.
The message contained only one line.
“This is just the beginning.”
Jasmine smirked and deleted it immediately.
Just as she was about to turn off her phone, Charles called.
“Ms. Lane, we have a problem.”
