Chapter 27

At the hospital, after examining Matthew, the doctor’s expression was grave. “The patient has severe

facial burns. He needs immediate surgery, but the treatment costs will be extremely high, and the follow- up reconstruction-”

“Money isn’t an issue,” Timothy interrupted. “Use the best medications and bring in the best specialists. I’ll cover all expenses.”

Then, he pulled out his phone and called his assistant, Howard Dale. “Immediately liquidate all assets under my name, including stocks and real estate. Convert everything to cash.”

Howard was stunned. “Mr. Smith…”

“Just do it,” came the cold, unquestionable response.

Howard quickly did as he was instructed.

Timothy stood outside the operating room, his gaze troubled.

He wondered how Jasmine was doing. She must have been terrified at that moment.

Jasmine sat in the car, trembling all over.

Sebastian gripped her hand tightly, commenting in a low voice, “He’ll be okay.”

She shook her head as her tears finally fell. “Why did he rush up there, though? He could have just stayed

out of it…”

He was silent for a moment before answering, “Because he loves you.”

Jasmine looked up in a daze. “Loves me?”

Sebastian’s eyes locked onto hers, and he nodded firmly. “Yes. He loves you… the same way I do.”

Her voice trembled as she mumbled, “He’s always been so afraid of pain…

“The guy needed half an hour of mental preparation just for a blood draw during a health check in college… How could he…”

Pulling Jasmine close, Sebastian gently brushed the tears from her lashes with his thumb. He glanced

toward the operating room, his gaze unreadable behind his glasses.

Eventually, he opined, “Sometimes, courage only shows up in certain moments. Like when you’re willing to walk through fire for the one you love.”

The surgery lasted a full eight hours.

Matthew’s face was wrapped in layers of bandages. The doctor explained that his right cheek and neck had severe burns, and even after multiple reconstructive surgeries, there would still be obvious scarring.

He simply nodded calmly.

When Timothy heard that Matthew was awake, he rushed over and pushed open the door to the hospital room. In the heavy smell of antiseptic, Matthew, wrapped in bandages, was trying to drink water through a straw when he heard the movement and turned his head slightly.

This man, who had once been a carefree playboy, couldn’t even turn his neck without tugging at his wounds. He looked utterly miserable.

Timothy stood beside the hospital bed and informed him, “I’ve arranged for all treatment costs. You don’t need to worry about anything.”

Matthew looked up at him, his voice hoarse. “Thank you.”

Timothy scoffed. “I’m not doing it for you.”

Matthew was about to snap back, but then he thought of something. He shut his mouth and stayed silent.
