Chapter 29

The hospital room fell silent, with only the rhythmic beeping of the monitors filling the air.

After a long pause, Matthew finally broke the silence. “I’m transferring to Soiuse next week. I heard their reconstructive techniques are more advanced.”

Jasmine’s head snapped up. “I’ll come with you. After all, I’m the cause of your situation.”

“No need for that.” He finally looked at her, the turbulent emotions in his eyes having settled into calm.

Then, he continued, “Sebastian’s been waiting for you downstairs for a while now. He’s your husband, and I don’t want to put him in a difficult position.”

Jasmine pressed her lips together. “I didn’t tell him I was coming to see you.”

He replied softly, “He knows. The nurse mentioned that he’s been in the lobby the entire afternoon. Clear things up with him.

“I don’t want you two to have misunderstandings-unlike…” Matthew trailed off, omitting the last few

words.

Of course, Matthew didn’t say that he meant him and Jasmine.

He reached for his water glass. However, his bandaged fingers couldn’t grip it properly.

Jasmine instinctively moved to help, and their hands touched as she grabbed the cup. Both of them

flinched, and the glass tumbled to the floor, shattering into pieces.

Seeing the blood trickling from Matthew’s hand where the glass had cut him, she panicked. “I’m sorry! I…”

“It’s fine,” Matthew replied, staring at the bloodstained shards on the floor with a bitter smile.

It wasn’t like he could feel the pain anymore. It must have hurt Jasmine terribly when he pushed her

toward the pieces of broken ceramic.

Jasmine hurriedly said goodbye and practically fled.

However, as she reached the end of the hallway, she ran into a nurse coming to change his bandages.

The woman seemed to want to say something, but she hesitated.

“Mr. Jackman didn’t want me to tell you, but the nerves in his right hand-”

“I understand,” Jasmine interrupted, her voice calmer than expected. “P-Please take good care of him.”

When night fell, she returned home.

Sebastian was sitting on the living room couch reviewing documents. However, he immediately stood when he heard the door open.

Instead of asking any questions, he took Jasmine’s bag. He gently brushed away the stray willow fluff that had somehow gotten on her shoulder.

“He’s going to Soiuse,” Jasmine mentioned suddenly.

Sebastian paused briefly before he continued helping her out of her coat. “Should I arrange a private jet?”

She turned to look into his eyes, asking, “Aren’t you angry? About how distracted I’ve been these past few days?”
