Chapter 500

If Jonathan hadn’t been there, Niamh might not have even recognized

Marina.

The moment Jonathan saw Niamh, his eyes flashed with fury.

Marina lifted her head slowly, finally meeting Niamh’s gaze.

“Niamh…”

Suddenly, Marina lunged at her like a madwoman, shrieking hysterically.

“You bitch! You poisonous snake! You ruined me-you bankrupted me, and that wasn’t enough for you, was it? You had people assault me! I’ll kill you! I swear to God, I’ll kill you!”

This was a police station, after all. Two officers rushed forward and restrained Marina, turning to Jonathan to say he should take Marina to the hospital once they finished the statement.

When Marina realized she couldn’t reach Niamh, she whirled around and collapsed into Jonathan’s arms.

“Jonathan… I can’t do this anymore… I don’t want to live!”

A moment ago, Niamh had felt a flicker of pity for Marina, seeing her battered and bruised, her face swollen beyond recognition.

But now, watching Marina’s fit, Niamh realized that Marina had

deliberately stayed at the station, injuries and all, just to put on this show for Jonathan when Niamh arrived.

“Marina, I won’t let anything happen to you. You’re going to be okay… Don’t be afraid, I’m here,” Jonathan murmured, holding her tight.

Niamh saw it all-Jonathan’s eyes overflowing with pain for Marina’s suffering… and burning with anger toward her.

For a second, a chill crept down Niamh’s fingertips.

She remembered-just two days ago, Jonathan had come to her office himself and told her plainly-

He didn’t love Marina anymore.

He’d fallen out of love.

But now, looking at him cradling Marina, so desperate to comfort her, those words felt like a cruel joke.

Without a word, Niamh turned and walked away.

Behind her, Marina’s howl echoed through the corridor:

“Niamh, don’t you dare walk out! Coward! You only know how to stab people in the back! Why didn’t you just let them kill me, huh? What good does it do you to leave me like this? Captain Wyatt, arrest her already! She’s the one-those loan sharks admitted Niamh paid them-”

Niamh stepped out of the police station and massaged her ear.

If she let Marina’s screeching burst her eardrum, that would be a real

waste.

As she drove back toward the office, her phone rang. Elmer’s name lit up

the screen.

“Nia, where are you right now?”

“I’m on my way back to the office.”

“Don’t go back yet.”

Elmer’s voice was as calm and polite as always, but Niamh caught the tension and urgency beneath his words.

“What’s happened?”

“I’m outside your building now. There’s a scene-someone’s causing trouble.”

Niamh wasn’t surprised.

Marina’s performance had been so convincing, and it wasn’t just about winning Jonathan’s sympathy. She wanted to unleash the mob on Niamh, to ruin her reputation.

The bigger the scandal, the better. Even if she had to pay people to create chaos at Niamh’s office, Marina would do it.

“Alright then, I’ll stop by the Metropolitan Museum and stroll around for a while. Maybe I’ll get some inspiration for the new collection.”

On the other end, Elmer paused in surprise.

“You’re a lot calmer than I expected.”

Niamh gave a soft laugh.

It wasn’t her first time being the target of a witch hunt. You get used to it, eventually.

By the time Niamh arrived at the museum, Jonathan was leaving the hospital, his arm wrapped around Marina as they walked out slowly.

Marina looked as fragile as porcelain.

Prescott was at the wheel.

Jonathan helped Marina settle into the back seat, and she nestled into his

chest.

“Jonathan…” Marina’s warm tears soaked through his suit jacket.

“I don’t want to go home…”
