Chapter 14

1/3

Half a year later, Yasmine stood amongst a sea of gorgeous flowers in a long wedding dress. She looked at the camera and smiled accordingly to the photographer’s requests.

The wedding dress was as bright as snow, perfectly complementing her delicate features. Despite the simple dress and light makeup, she was incredibly beautiful.

She was surrounded by bluebells, white jasmine flowers, and pink roses.

Yasmine suddenly thought about something Charlie had once told her. “It’s a blessing to see your favorite person standing amongst your favorite flowers.”

However, humans were deceptive creatures. She couldn’t believe that the love of her life would become the very person who hurt her the most.

Her marriage, which she had once been so proud of, had become nothing more than an elaborate lie.

She shook her head in an attempt to toss those bad memories away and immersed herself in the

photoshoot.

Getting her wedding pictures taken was a smooth process. She chose some of her favorite raw images and thanked the photographer before hiking up her skirt and heading back to the changing room.

Once she was back in her casual clothes, she took a pen and a piece of paper out of her bag. She ticked

off a box at the very end of the piece of paper.

There was a chart drawn out on the paper with both Yasmine and Charlie’s handwriting on it.

It was a list of 999 things that they wanted to do together. They had written them down when they were

still in love.

The box she had just ticked read, “Re-take wedding photos”.

Their wedding hadn’t been the best memory. Because of the stabbing, she had spent most of her time in

recovery.

The guests only remembered the image of her collapsed in a pool of blood and would occasionally

contact her to show concern.

Only Charlie could see the regret in her eyes. He had promised to design a wedding dress for her so that

they could re-take their wedding photos.

After leaving him, Yasmine finally realized that love always changed, and promises couldn’t always be

kept

In the seven years of their marriage, she had been the only one working hard to make Charlie happy.

She pushed herself to be the perfect wife and the perfect mother.

She even bought clothes that would match his ties, and was eventually willing to be lied to so that she

could raise his kids.

Yasmine was starting to feel sorry for herself, so she went to the counter and ordered the most expensive bundle deal. She set a date to come and collect her picture album with the studio owner and left.

As she walked home, she decided to walk by the beach to clear her mind.

She enjoyed the soft caress of the evening breeze when she suddenly heard a loud cry for help coming

from the beach.

“Help! Is anyone there? A kid is drowning! She can’t breathe!”

Yasmine sped toward the source of the noise without any hesitation.

“Don’t worry! I’ll save her.”

When she reached them, she noticed that a little girl was lying on the sand, and that there were only a few

other kids around her age standing on the beach.

They looked panicked and called out to Yasmine as if they had found a lifeline.

In a trembling voice, one of them begged, “Please, miss. Please save our friend!”

Yasmine looked at the little girl and saw how her face had turned purple from a lack of oxygen. She was

no longer breathing.

Yasmine took a deep breath. She did her best to remember what she had learned from the emergency rescue lessons she had taken for Zachary and Rachel’s sakes and said, “You guys should call an

ambulance!”

“Okay!” the other kids replied.

Yasmine tested the little girl’s pulse and flipped her over. She laid the little girl over her leg so that she could get her to cough out the water in her lungs.

A crowd had formed and was starting to approach, holding out their phones to record it down. They could see the seawater than was dripping from the corner of the little girl’s mouth on their screens.

“Don’t crowd her!” Yasmine shouted, opening up a space around them. She knelt down and began to give the little girl chest compressions.

She was so tense that there was a big patch of sweat on the back of her light yellow dress.

Finally, the little girl suddenly coughed out a huge mouthful of water and began to make small, weak cries. Everyone heaved a sigh of relief.

At the moment, they heard an ambulance siren approaching from afar.

Yasmine’s legs were trembling, but she forced herself to stand up and follow the little girl to the hospital.

She leaned against the inside of the ambulance and felt her heart melt because of how tightly the little girl was holding on to her hand.

Once the little girl was in her ward, Yasmine suddenly heard urgent footsteps running down the corridor

outside.

“Tessie!” someone called out as a large, strong hand pushed the door open.

“Hi, are you this girl’s parent…” Yasmine stood up, but trailed off once she saw the newcomer.

He was tall and lean. His head was held high, and his skin seemed to gleam under the lights. His features

were chiseled, and his brow cast deep shadows over his eyes.

He had clearly ran all the way to the ward and was panting, causing his Adam’s apple to bob up and down. Even his lips were flushed from exertion.

Yasmine stared at him dazedly.

“Jasper?”

He froze. He glanced at the bed before looking at Yasmine’s drenched clothes. Then, he immediately

made the connection.

“Yasmine? Were you the one who saved her?”
