Chapter 6

“No!” Yasmine shouted in terror.

The only response she heard was Zachary and Rachel giggling behind her, their giggles laced with

menace.

With a dull thump, her belly fell heavily against the hard edge of the stairs.

Her lower belly immediately began to convulse in pain. Her hair stuck against her face as she reached out. She tried to call for help, but her voice was incredibly weak. “H-Help me and my baby…”

“You deserve it!” Zachary said, stomping on her stomach.

“Hmph!” Rachel said, crossing her arms. “We won’t let you have a baby!”

Yasmine could feel the life in her belly slowly fading.

She couldn’t figure out why she couldn’t compare to Zara, not even when she had treasured and loved the

twins with her whole being.

The door suddenly opened.

“Yasmine!”

Charlie’s eyes widened at the sight of Yasmine collapsed in a pool of blood.

He was about to rush over, but the kids ran toward him while crying loudly. Zachary held onto his arm

while Rachel wrapped her arms around his leg.

“Dad! Mom was angry that Ms. Zara got a special meal. She wanted to hit us and pour the remains in the

kitchen on us!”

Charlie looked at the flecks of blood on the twins’ faces and turned to look at Yasmine, who was covered

in blood. His gaze was filled with sorrow as he asked, “Yasmine, are you trying to tear this family apart?”

“Family?” she said. She laughed as blood began to puddle around her. “Yeah. I’m sure the four of you are the perfect family.”

Before she blacked out, Yasmine caught the glimpse of terror in Charlie’s gaze.

Was he actually afraid of her finding out the truth?

What a joke.

In the hospital ward, Zara collapsed in Charlie’s embrace with tears in her eyes.

“If you hadn’t come here to get me discharged, you would have been able to go home earlier. Ms. Steele wouldn’t have gotten hurt,” Zara choked out. “But… how could she do that to the kids?”

Charlie caressed Zara’s hair gently. “It’s not your fault. She wasn’t doing her job as their mother.”

He looked at Yasmine, who was still unconscious on the bed. His expression was a confusing mix of pity

and anger.

However, at the sight of Yasmine’s pale face, he let out a helpless sigh and got up to tuck her in more

snugly.

At that very moment, the doctor entered with Yasmine’s medical report.

Charlie hurriedly asked, “How’s my wife doing?”

The doctor frowned. “Did you know she had a-”

Yasmine’s eyes suddenly shot open as she cut him off. “Please remove the others from this room first,”

she said.

“I’m sorry,” Zara said as she clamped a hand over her mouth while stumbling out the door. “I won’t annoy

you any longer.”

She then ran out of the room crying.

The tenderness immediately disappeared from Charlie’s gaze as he said, “You’re unbelievable!”

He then hurriedly chased after Zara.

Yasmine gently caressed her empty belly as she listened to the doctor drone on about recovery tips.

She suddenly remembered how Charlie would refer to medical articles whenever she was on her period.

so that he could make custom meals for her.

Now, though, he ignored her pain in favor of Zara’s feelings.

The doctor patted Yasmine’s shoulder. “Cheer up. Focus on the future, not the past.”

Yasmine’s tears began to stream down her cheeks.

Even after losing the love of her life and her baby, she was forced to stay trapped in the same place.

It was 2:00 am when she glanced at the calendar. There were only three days left until their divorce proceedings were finalized.

The door opened again. She closed her eyes, pretending to be asleep.

“Yasmine, I know you’re awake,” a clear voice said from above her.

She opened her eyes and was met with Charlie’s tired gaze.

He clutched her cold hands and said with a slight frown, “What happened yesterday was the kids’ fault. I’ve sent them over to my grandma’s place.”

He lifted his shirt and pressed her hand against his firm abs. “I’ll bring you to a hot spring resort for a

holiday. I’ll make up for the alone time we lost, okay?”

Yasmine didn’t want to start a fight, so she agreed quietly.

However, she hadn’t known Zara would be joining as well.

She hid behind Charlie as she said nervously, “H-Hello, Ms. Steele.”

Charlie almost instinctively shielded her behind him. “This is just a coincidence.”

His cautious gaze stabbed Yasmine in the heart like a dagger.

She nodded.

She was leaving soon anyway. No matter how crappy his excuses were, she could no longer be bothered

to call him out.

The male and female areas at the hot springs were separated, so Zara volunteered to join Yasmine.

“Yasmine, don’t…” Charlie called out before they parted ways. “Don’t do anything to Zara.”

Yasmine stared at him silently for a long time before turning to leave.

Once they reached the hot springs, Zara finally got rid of her sweet, shy act. Her red lips curved in a smile.

“I’ve heard Mrs. Listford Senior talk about your divorce,” she said as she raised an eyebrow. “Thanks for

finally letting us be together.”

Yasmine pulled the robe tighter around herself. “Don’t thank me. Even if I’m not in the picture, you’ll never

be the real Mrs. Listford.”

Zara’s perfect mask was beginning to show cracks.

“Don’t worry. After all, I’m the one who gave him two children, not you,” she retorted.

Yasmine looked down. There wasn’t a flicker of emotion in her gaze.

Her calmness, however, managed to provoke Zara.

With a loud splash, she grabbed Yasmine by the wrist and pulled them both into the deep pool.
