Chapter 111
Nathan closed his eyes in pain.
It took several seconds to get his emotions under control.
“Mila,” Nathan said, “Vivian and I… it’s not what you think.”
But Mila just stared at him.
Those big eyes made him feel like shit.
“I don’t know how to explain this,” Nathan said quietly. “Just give me some time. Eventually, she’ll understand. You will too.”
“There’s a blue tanzanite in our safe at home–really beautiful. Your mom loved it. I’ll have it made into jewelry for you.”
“Don’t need it,” Mila replied. “I’m only my mom’s daughter. You’re not my dad.”
“Don’t need jewelry or stones.”
“Stop flashing your money around.”
“I know how powerful you are, but I love her.”
Mila was wise beyond her years–not even 5 yet, but she spoke with startling clarity.
Mila hopped down from her chair, her big–eared dog plushie bouncing.
“Stop coming to see me,” she said again. “It’s getting late I need to sleep.”
She started walking toward the door.
Nathan stood up. He didn’t chase after her, just said: “Just this once, please take the stuff. I bought it especially for you.”
Mila turned around, lips pressed tight.
“I told you–give them to other kids,” Mila said.

“You can take them and do whatever you want with them after,” Nathan said.
“I already said,” Mila replied, “those are your things. I won’t take them.”
“Are you trying to bully a little kid?”
Nathan felt helpless: “That’s not what I’m doing.”
He just wanted to be good to her.
But Mila kept staring at him.
The director, who’d been waiting by the door, heard the commotion and walked in, giving Nathan a disapproving look.
Someone came to take Mila back to bed. The director stood there watching Nathan’s clenched jaw.
“You should leave,” the director said. “We’ll take care of her.”
Nathan looked away, dropping his head so his hair hid his expression.
He pulled out a checkbook, wrote a check, and handed it to the director.
“Donation,” he said. “For the children’s home. Use it however you want.”
The director looked conflicted but took the check.
The children’s home really needed the money.
“These things,” Nathan paused, “see if any other kids can use them.”
The director nodded.
“Don’t tell the other children it came from me. And take good care of her,” Nathan added.
“We will,” the director promised.
Nathan nodded.
“I’m going.”
He said it to no one in particular, then turned and disappeared into the night.

Time was flying.
The whole city was in chaos.
Louie was racing to the family estate.
He had multiple phones–one video–calling Amelia’s crew, another getting updates from people at the
estate.
His headache was getting worse.
Several investors had already shown up there.
Even though Amelia had given him a solid solution, the problem was his older brothers were there too.
As his position in the Cavendish power struggle got stronger, those two sharks wouldn’t let this opportunity slip.
But seeing Amelia and the others still grinding through research gave him strength.
He had to make this work, impossible or not!
This was his only shot at climbing out of the gutter, and Amelia had handed it to him. If he couldn’t pull this off, he’d be eating dirt for the rest of his life!
He pushed his driver to go faster, not noticing the car that passed them going the other direction.
Back at the apartment.
Amelia and the team had torn through mountains of documents and finally locked down everything they
needed.
Only then did they breathe a little easier.
Amelia checked her phone–3 AM.
“You guys are amazing, thank you,” Amelia said gratefully.
“No big deal,” Se7ven grinned. “Just doing our job.”
He wasn’t working for free–Louie had already recruited him to Cavendish Entertainment with an insane

salary after seeing his skills.
They were just keeping it quiet during Amelia’s situation, until the time was right.
Harper wasn’t being modest either. She smiled, clutching her current–season Prada bag: “I accept designer bribes. Doing some work is totally fair trade.”
But Amelia knew there was a huge difference between going through the motions and actually giving a
damn.
Plus one was a guy whose collectibles were worth a house, the other was the chief of New York General’s daughter–neither needed the money.
They were both doing this for her.
Amelia didn’t plan to get sentimental about it. She’d remember this and have their backs going forward.
“So what’s next?” Harper asked, yawning.
Se7ven listened while ordering late–night food.
“Vivian’s coming for us, so I’m gonna turn her into our weapon,” Amelia smiled, fingers flying over the
keyboard.
“Lost me,” Harper said, melting into the couch.
“The show needs to be positive and inspiring, good for society,” Amelia looked up.
She grinned: “Isn’t Vivian basically the perfect tool?”
Harper sat up, eyes wide.
Amelia tossed Harper a cushion and kept going: “Didn‘ she say she wanted to livestream her final six months to help and inspire other sick people? That’s pure gold content.”
“Fight Vivian with Vivian?” Harper whispered.
Amelia nodded.
The real issue they had to handle was whether the show would get axed completely.
Only programs with seriously bad social impact got shot down.

Voice of Heaven’s early buzz had actually come mostly from Vivian’s story.
It was only later, as the competition heated up, that people started focusing on the actual performances.
And until today, contestant Elena had been squeaky clean.
Whether this scandal was real or bullshit was still unclear–the suits knew entertainment was full of fake
drama and plot twists.
So with a strong, positive angle to work with, they wouldn’t just kill the whole show.
Their research showed most cases just edited out the problematic people.
Plus, the authorities wouldn’t rush to judgment–they needed meetings and paperwork.
With their submitted materials and investigation timeline, requesting a deadline before the final live
show.
The government ran on evidence, so this should work.
“Worst case scenario, I reveal who I really am,” Amelia said, hitting send to Louie.
“But I don’t think it’ll come to that.”
Cavendish Entertainment would have specialists handle the official liaison stuff.
Now their stalling strategy was basically locked in.
All that was left was getting that piece of paper.
Her divorce decree from Nathan.
