Amelia swallowed the pain rising in her chest.
So much had happened over these seven years.
She could handle it–both the taking and the letting go.
They’d truly loved each other once, and she didn’t regret what she’d done back then. But now that the love was gone, she wouldn’t give him anything
more.
Not her effort, not her body, not her heart.
Not wanting to drag this out, Amelia started walking toward the villa.
But Nathan grabbed her hand.
“Amelia.” He said her name again.
“I told you–no one can replace you,” Nathan said. “Vivian only has six months left. After that, we can go back to how things were.”
“You don’t need to pull these stunts. In six months, everything will go back to normal.”
His voice came from behind her.
It almost made Amelia laugh.
Her attitude couldn’t be clearer, yet he still thought she was throwing a tantrum?
Why would she throw a tantrum?
For him? For the position of Mrs. Harrison?
She’d never been Mrs. Harrison. She was Miss Visconti–Amelia Visconti.
She’d stayed by his side once because of love.
And now she was reclaiming herself, also because of love.
The difference was, before she’d loved Nathan Harrison. Now she loved herself.
She’d already given him chances.
She’d asked him again and again for confirmation, but every answer from his mouth had broken her heart a little more.
She’d been hurt enough for one lifetime. She was done being hurt.
That boy who’d once held a broken piece of wood to shield her–maybe he’d died in that rainy night long ago.

“Let go!” she said.
But his large hand around her wrist wouldn’t budge.

The words nearly spilled out.
But she held them back.
They were still in the separation period. If she wanted a smooth divorce, she couldn’t say too much.
So out of everything she wanted to say, she settled on: “Nathan, my business has nothing to do with you.”
That sentence completely set him off.
The night wind carried her unfamiliar perfume to him.
Just like her right now–everything felt foreign.
“Nothing to do with me?” He repeated her words. “Amelia, you’re still my wife You think any of this doesn’t concern me?”
Amelia let out a cold laugh. “Oh, so you do remember I’m your wife.”
“Let go!” Amelia tried to wrench her hand free from Nathan’s grip.
Their voices grew louder and more heated.
Finally, an elderly voice cut through their argument.
“Enough!”
William, who’d been waiting inside the villa, was now being wheeled out.
His face was dark with anger.
“Nathan, what the hell are you doing!” William barked.
Nathan’s lips pressed into a thin line, his cold eyes locked on Amelia.
“Nathan!” William’s rebuke came again.
Only then did Nathan look away, lowering his gaze slightly.
“Grandfather,” he acknowledged, but still refused to release Amelia’s hand.
William glared daggers at Nathan.
Meanwhile, Lady Harrison had walked over and taken Amelia’s hand, saying with heartbreak, “Dear child, you’ve gotten so thin.”
“It’s all that bastard’s fault!” William raised his cane to strike Nathan.
Nathan didn’t dodge, just stood there straight as a rod.
A cool breeze drifted across the lake.
Amelia instinctively pulled her coat tighter.
Nathan frowned slightly, glancing at her again.
Was she cold?
For some reason, he had this strange feeling that something had happened–something he didn’t know about.
“We could hear you two arguing from way inside the house!” William angrily swung his cane at Nathan.

“Nathan, after all the disgraceful things you’ve done lately, you have the nerve to pick a fight with Amelia here!”
“I don’t know how I ended up with a grandson like you!”
“I’s lucky your parents are overseas and I’m too sick to do much, or you’d senow we’d deal with you!”
William was breathing hard from the exertion. His health had been poor for or a year–they’d needed Nathan and Amelia’s marriage for good luck. Now he looked even worse.
“All you do is chase after some homewrecker! You’ve disgraced the Harrison me!
“Do you remember even half of the vows you made when you brought Amelia bere and knelt before me?”
“Doing all this–don’t you feel guilty at all?”
“Cough, cough…”
William started choking on his own words.
“Grandfather!”
Both Nathan and Amelia rushed forward, but William shoved Nathan away.
Amelia reached out to help the old man catch his breath, trying to make him more comfortable.
She could still tell who treated her well.
She was done dealing with Nathan, but she didn’t want anything to happen to the old man.
“Cough, cough, cough…” William kept coughing.
Nathan immediately called for the family doctor.
They moved inside the villa. The doctor arrived quickly and stabilized William
Afterward, the doctor warned them: “The old master’s condition has improved a lot this year. Minor stress won’t be dangerous, but try not to upset
him too much.”
After everyone got William settled in his room, Lady Harrison led them back out.
Her expression was just as grim.
“Nathan, can’t you just cut things off with that Vivian woman?”
Nathan lowered his head, saying nothing.
Lady Harrison looked disappointed.
“Fine, you’re grown up now,” she said. “You control all of Harrison Group now. Everyone says Nathan Harrison single–handedly led the company to dominate over Cavendish Corporation and Wessex Holdings–such impressive abilities.”
“We old folks certainly can’t control you anymore.”
“But before you do things, could you at least think about Amelia?”
“Amelia is your wife. You used to say constantly that you loved her, that you wanted to marry her.”
“Don’t you know how vicious the rumors are out there? Don’t you care about Amelia at all?”
Nathan kept his head down, lips pressed tight.
Seeing his silence, Lady Harrison grew even more disappointed and finally said, “I was going to join you both for dinner, but now you can go by

She gripped Amelia’s hand tightly, looking at Nathan with complete exasperation.
William had already tried yelling and hitting him. There really wasn’t much else they could flo.
“Don’t leave the estate. Your grandfather has more to discuss with you both later.”
After a pause, she stared directly at Nathan and added, “You’re staying at the state tonight, understood?”
