Chapter 137
The masked man sprawled on the ground let out a pitiful groan. “Please–at least cover my medical bills too!”
Selene stood at the school gates, waiting for Daph to come out.
She wore a face mask, but it didn’t do much to hide her identity–several people recognized her right away.
“Miss Thompson, congratulations!” someone called out.
“You’re amazing, Miss Thompson!”
A few parents approached, shaking her hand warmly.
One mother leaned in and whispered, “Miss Thompson, thank you so much for getting Principal Lewis out. Now that the dean’s taken over, there’ve been so many positive changes. I just know this year’s student awards will actually be fair for once!”
Selene smiled modestly. “I didn’t really do anything. If Jason hadn’t tried to get Daph expelled in such a scene, Lewis would’ve been fine.”
Many parents and teachers were genuinely grateful to Selene–they’d suffered under Jason’s tyranny for ages.
“Selene!” A cheerful voice rang out. Clarissa strolled over, holding little Penelope’s hand, Quentin trailing behind.
Clarissa’s makeup was porcelain–pale, her brows elegantly arched. She wore a sharp–cut cashmere coat and carried a Hermès Birkin bag. Around her neck hung an emerald pendant worth half a million dollars, perfectly set off by her sweater.
She’d shown off that pendant to Selene before, back when they were at the Vaughns‘.
Quentin, with his refined features and academic air, looked every bit the cultured
gentleman.
“Selene! Something big happened–Daph got into another fight!”
Clarissa’s shrill voice drew the attention of every parent nearby.
She leaned in, eyes bright with gossip. “Penelope told me your Dafina started a fight during recess and actually broke someone’s arm!”

At once, the other parents stiffened, pulling their own kids closer, away from Selene.
One mother murmured a warning, “If you see that tough Dafina, make sure you keep your distance, okay?”
“Mom, I think Dafina’s awesome!” a little girl piped up.
At the mention of Dafina’s name, the children burst with excitement, chattering to their parents:
“Dafina’s so cool! I wish I could be just like her!”
Their parents were nearly driven mad. “You absolutely cannot be like Dafina, do you hear me?”
But the kids couldn’t stop, their voices bubbling with admiration. “Dafina beat up the entire class A by herself!”
“She took on everyone and left them all flat on their backs!”
Listening to these tall tales, the parents pictured Dafina as some kind of pint–sized bodybuilder, single–handedly flattening a horde of children, leaving chaos in her wake.
A wave of dizziness swept over the parents. If Charteris Academy weren’t the top private school in the city, they’d have switched schools long ago.
Clarissa basked in the gossip, feeling even more triumphant. “Selene, you can’t raise a daughter this way. You’ve turned Daph into some kind of She–Hulk–how will she ever find a husband like that?”
Selene paid her no mind. She’d spotted Daph coming out.
Trailing behind Daph was a line of kindergarteners.
Daph had just begun to run toward Selene when the little ones behind her called
out.
She turned, and the small children bowed deeply.
“Goodbye, Lady Dafina!”
“Lady Dafina, thank you for protecting us!”
