Once Felicity had been taken to the infirmary, he’d finally break the news to his father–that his melodramatic mother was still at the bottom of the hill.
The head teacher had no desire to argue with an injured woman. She simply said, “Miss Thompson, the school will conduct a thorough investigation into your accident.”
So you think I’m lying, don’t you?”
Felicity sat up abruptly and slapped the teacher across the face.
Still crouched beside Felicity, the teacher reeled in shock, her mouth agape as she stared at her.
Unbelievable. How could someone be so utterly lacking in manners?
“Felicity!” Harrison’s voice was low and sharp.
Sitting on the ground, Felicity glared up at him and snapped, “What are you yelling at me for? You don’t even treat me like a friend, do you?”
The teacher opened her mouth, but at Felicity’s words, she pressed her lips together and fell silent.
There’s no point arguing with a fool; they’ll only drag you down to their level.
Felicity, still fuming, thumped Harrison’s thigh. “Your father’s being accused of something he didn’t do, and you don’t even defend me?”
Harrison’s eyes narrowed as he noticed the red marks around Felicity’s neck. “What happened to your neck?”
Feeling the stinging pain circling her throat, Felicity longed to tattle to Harrison–to tell him Selene had tried to strangle her.
If she did, Harrison would surely take her side and punish Selene.
But right now, she had to keep Selene’s involvement a secret from everyone.
After all, ever since Selene and that little mute kid had tumbled into the bushes, there’d been not a peep from either of them. Odds were, they’d both met with disaster.
At that thought, Felicity lowered her head to hide the cold smirk threatening to surface.
Chapter 199
She’d gotten rid of Altair, dealt a heavy blow to Leo, and boosted Harrison’s standing within the Vaughn family. She’d also eliminated a potential rival for her future children with Harrison.
By getting rid of Selene, she’d snuffed out the last of her sister’s shine–and she couldn’t bear the thought of living in her elder sister’s shadow any longer.
“When I fell, my scarf caught on a branch and wrapped around my neck. I can barely breathe–I’m still short of oxygen,” Felicity said, breaking into a fit of coughs. She put on her most pitiful expression and reached out to Harrison, clearly wanting him to comfort her.
But Harrison just frowned, his expression cold and unreadable.
He crouched beside her, but before he could say a word, the sound of hurried footsteps erupted behind him.
Turning, Harrison saw a dozen men in matching staff uniforms sprinting toward them.
But he saw instantly that they weren’t ordinary park employees–their movements were too precise, their eyes too sharp.
They looked like plainclothes security.
And if plainclothes security was showing up here, there could be only one reason-
Altair had come to this outdoor camp, and Leo must have assigned extra security to protect him.
If they were all moving at once, something must have happened to Altair.
Close behind the security team was Luke Holloway.
Luke had been pitching a tent at the campsite when he noticed the security detail suddenly reveal themselves and rush off together. He immediately suspected something had happened to Altair–especially since Altair was last seen with Selene.
Luke tried to call Selene, but she didn’t answer. Without hesitation, he handed Daph off to a teacher at the camp and hurried after the security team.
Ms. Hughes, meanwhile, assumed the men were just more park staff. She said, “Miss Thompson is fine now. She took a bad fall in a dangerous spot, but we’re handling it.”

Chapter 199
The security team didn’t spare Felicity a second glance, striding past her with icy indifference.
The man in the lead pulled out his phone, tracking a location. “The young master should be just down there!” he called out.
Felicity and Dames both felt their hearts skip a beat.
They were here for Altair?
There’s no one down there!” Dames shouted.
