Selene’s cheeks flamed instantly.
Chapter 210
From the other end of the line, she could hear the sound of Adrian squeezing out body wash. Her mind couldn’t help but wander–just where exactly was Adrian planning to wash?
His voice, already deep and alluring, sounded even more seductive echoing off the tiled bathroom walls.
“Is there something you need?”
Clutching her burning forehead, Selene felt as though her brain had been tossed into a boiling pot. She forced herself to focus, clinging to a scrap of clarity as she hurried to explain why she’d called.
“It’s just… next week, my friend is coming back to the States. You know him–Mr. Shaw, my navigator, Carmel Howard. So, I was hoping to borrow Solarius for a bit. Would that be alright?”
Adrian agreed without hesitation. “Sure. And as your former Luna Racing Club boss, can I apply for the honor of picking him up at the airport?”
Selene laughed. “Of course you can.”
Just then, she heard Adrian give a soft gasp.
Startled, Selene glanced at her phone–and there, onscreen, was Adrian’s face, damp and glistening with water. A vísion straight out of a steamy romance: droplets trickled down the long line of his neck.
Shocked, Selene nearly launched her phone across the car.
“Sorry,” Adrian said, sounding sheepish. “I meant to hang up, but my hands are too wet. Hit the wrong button.”
At that moment, Luke Holloway’s voice broke in. He was driving, eyes fixed on the road ahead, not glancing her way. “Something wrong?”
“N–no! It’s nothing!” Selene blurted.
“Oh,” Luke replied.
Suddenly, a loud thud sounded from the phone–a split–second flash on the front camera showed a muscular, bare thigh. Water splashed over the screen, blurring the image.
Selene squeezed her eyes shut and silently chanted, “Don’t look, don’t look, don’t look
Her fingers fumbled blindly at her phone, desperate to hang up.
Adrian, noticing her frantic fingertips on his screen, let his voice slide into her ear like a teasing feather
“Selene, easy Stop fumbling around”
By now, her whole face was crimson. Up ahead, the traffic light turned red, and Luke brought the car to a stop. He glanced over at her.
Selene, pure instinct, whipped the phone behind her back.
Why does this feel like I’m sneaking around with Adrian right in front of Luke?
Realizing what she’d just done, she broke into a cold sweat of embarrassment.
Luke’s tone was a little gruff. “Are you and Adrian talking about something I’m not supposed to hear?”
She shook her head frantically. “No, big brother, just keep your eyes on the road!”
Hunching her shoulders, she used her body to shield the phone from Luke’s view, risking a quick peek at the screen.
Adrian had finally hung up.
Selene let out a huge sigh of relief, her body going limp with release.
Meanwhile, in his bathroom, Adrian bit down on his knuckle to suppress a laugh, white teeth flashing as he fought to keep silent.
Luke pulled up outside Leo’s place. Once they stopped, Selene hopped out and opened the back door, gently calling to rouse Daph and Altair.
But both kids were still half–asleep, faces pressed against the seat.
“I’ve got it” Luke said quietly.
He reached in and scooped Daph up with ease, holding her in one arm. He started to reach for Altair with his free hand, but the boy, sensing a stranger’s approach, snapped awake, eyes wide and fearful
Luke immediately drew his hand back, carrying only Daph out of the car.
“He got spooked by me, Luke murmured.
