Chapter 229
He was determined to get Selene’s signed letter of forgiveness-no matter the cost.
Selene just smiled and countered, “Do you honestly think I’d sign that?”
The man’s patience was running thin. “I’ll give you one chance. Name your price.”
Harrison slid a blank check across the table.
Selene picked it up, arching an eyebrow. “Pass me a pen.”
If someone wanted to hand her free money, she wasn’t about to turn it down.
Harrison shot a look at his lawyer, who immediately produced a pen and handed it over.
Selene wasted no time, writing a number with a flourish before passing the check back to Harrison. “You sign first.”
Harrison’s eyes landed on the number she’d written. He practically stopped breathing.
“A hundred million?” His gaze was dark, almost impenetrable.
He scoffed, lips curling in disdain. “This is extortion.”
Selene shot back instantly, “Officers, you saw it yourselves-Harrison handed me a blank check and told me to fill in the amount! Now I’ve done it, and suddenly he’s accusing me of blackmail? Isn’t this entrapment?”
Both the police officers and the lawyer coughed, trying to hide their
amusement.
One of the officers tried to mediate. “How about this, Mr. Vaughn-why don’t you suggest a sum, and see if Miss Thompson is agreeable?”
The lawyer chimed in as well, “Exactly. We’re here in good faith to settle

this.”
Harrison said through gritted teeth, “One million.”
Selene let out a short, bitter laugh. “Is that what Felicity is worth to you? Just one million?”
Harrison’s breathing faltered. “That’s all you deserve for compensation.”
Selene narrowed her eyes, her soft features sharpening. “Mr. Vaughn, it doesn’t seem like you’re here to seek reconciliation. If that’s the case, there’s the door.”
She moved to shut it, but Harrison pressed his palm firmly against the frame.
“Three million!”
Selene mimicked his tone, “Do you think this is a flea market, Harrison? Bargaining back and forth? Listen carefully-I’ll give you just one shot!”
She threw his own words right back at him.
“Ten million. Ten million for me, ten million for Altair. If you’re not willing, then you can get out.”
She added, “My ten million is to come directly from Felicity’s account.”
Just as Harrison opened his mouth to object, Selene cut him off.
“If she doesn’t have enough, then The Thompson Family can cover the
difference.”
Harrison stared at her flawless face-she was like a blade, sharp and dazzling, impossible to look away from.
She hadn’t always been like this. Selene used to be gentle, quiet as a precious stone, always by his side, so much so that sometimes he almost forgot she was there.
Harrison called Victor Thompson. Victor figured that paying Selene ten million from The Thompson Family was just money moving from one pocket to the other-he’d get it back sooner or later.

So he agreed, and transferred the settlement to Selene’s account immediately.
Victor wanted to curse Selene out over the phone, but Harrison simply hung up on him.
Harrison looked at Selene with cold, arrogant contempt.
So this was how she operated-taking advantage of the situation for a ten-million payout. She was obsessed with money.
“Well? Satisfied now? If you are, sign the settlement agreement.”
Selene glanced at her bank app.
“The money’s arrived,” she said, “but I want to see Felicity actually atone for what she’s done.”
Ignoring Harrison’s simmering anger, Selene turned to the two officers
behind him.
“Officers, under the new public order laws, you can require Felicity to record a video apology and post it on her social media. She’s got plenty of friends in the city-when her post gets at least 999 likes, I’ll sign the
letter.”
Harrison’s eyebrows nearly met in the middle, his face shadowed with fury. “Are you trying to destroy Felicity? Selene, I won’t let you do this to
her!”
His warning only made Selene’s smile brighter. “You have three minutes. Call Felicity. She has three minutes to record the apology and post it.”
Once upon a time, Harrison had played this same game-pushing her to the breaking point.
Now, it was her turn to return the favor.
Harrison liked to push people to their limits.
Today, he got a taste of his own medicine.
